“There’s nothing ordinary about you, Zeno,” I say, my heart swelling with love as I pull him in for a kiss so hot, it’s like I can even smell smoke.

Suddenly, a shrill beeping pierces the air, and I realize this isn’t just the throes of passion, something is actually burning.

“The cake!” I shriek, and we rush out to the kitchen as the smoke alarm screams out its warning.

I grab the oven mitt, pull open the door, and my eyes sting like they’ve been kissed by a BBQ as the thick smoke billows out.

“Guess we’ll have to sing your dick happy birthday without a cake,” I sigh, as I dump the charred disaster on the counter.

“Allow me to fix it,” says Zeno, stepping forward and sweeping his hand toward the cake.

I watch expectantly, wondering if he’ll transform it into the way the cake should have looked, or if he’ll give it some of his Zeno flair and make it a three-tiered cake with fireworks coming out of the top.

Instead, something more surprising happens, and the cake sits there, looking just as burned and pitiful as before.

Zeno frowns and then waves his hand more forcefully, but still, nothing happens.

He clenches his muscles, veins bulging out of his forearms as he thrusts his entire arm in the direction of the cake, but the result remains the same.

“My magic…it’s gone.”

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Zeno

I stare at my hands in disbelief. Magic has been my whole existence, and now it is gone. What am I without it?

But when I look up at Bethany, the realization that I don’t need magic anymore hits me. Exchanging my magic for a heart with which to love this beautiful woman is a gift, not a sacrifice.

“I’m so sorry, Zeno. Are you okay?” she asks, setting her hand tenderly on my arm, and her words melt me.

“There is no need to be sorry. You are everything that I need,” I say, burying my face into her hair when suddenly a new thought hits me.

I no longer require magic, but will she hold the same feelings for me without it?

“Whirlwind, I will understand if this changes things. I am no longer the same as when we met,” I say, and even though the words rip me to shreds, I have to get them out. I’d rather walk away now than have her pretend to still want me out of guilt.

“Are you kidding?” she says, her eyes studying my face to see if I am joking.

“Oh, my sweet angel,” she says, stroking her hand softly down my face when she realizes I am being sincere.

“The magic was fun, but it’s not the reason I love you. You make me happy just by being you,” she says, and my new heart thumps so hard I can feel it beating in every part of my body.

My lips crash down onto hers, and her love flows into me, a feeling more powerful than any magic.

“I’ve had an idea,” she says, breaking her mouth away from mine and leading me into the living room. She shoves me down onto the velvet couch and looks at me with the mischievous twinkle in her eyes that first made me fall for her.

“Now don’t move a muscle until I’m back,” she says, and I watch her peachy ass sway as she walks into the bedroom.

She shuts the door behind her, and I drop my head back, pressing my hand against my chest and closing my eyes to savor the rapturous feeling of love.

A few moments later, I hear the door creak open, and I lift my head to see my beautiful whirlwind, dressed in a skin-tight PVC nurse’s costume, with a red garter around her thigh and a wicked smile on her lips.

“You’re a real man now, and that new body of yours needs a physical.”
