“Any second now,” I whisper, more to myself than to Luka. His face is a mask of pain, eyes glazed over as he fights the invisible chains pulling him down into an eros-fueled abyss.

“Feels like we’re about to meet our maker,” Luka grunts, a wry chuckle bubbling up despite the agony written all over him. “I wonder what she looks like.”

“You’re not dying,” I mutter. “We’re both getting out of here alive.”

I fling myself backwards against the wall, sheltering Luka as a flashbang grenade suddenly goes off outside in the hall. My ears ring and my eyes flash with color, going dark. Seconds later, gunshots sound and a body thuds against the plexiglass, sliding down and leaving a streak of red.

“The fuck?” Luka rasps.

Before I can respond, the door crashes open, and for a moment, death stares us right in the face.

But it’s not wearing a guard’s uniform—it’s three omegas, wild-eyed and brandishing guns like they’re born for this fight.

And I recognize them.

“Ruby?” My voice breaks on her name.

I can’t believe what I’m seeing—the blonde is standing there with wide eyes, wearing an oversized t-shirt and little else. She’s dirty and disheveled, but she’s here.

Alive.

And holding a machine gun.

“Star!” she breathes, and then she’s slinging the gun around to rush toward me, taking me in a fierce hug. I’m swarmed by two others almost right away, and I recognize their scents instantly—Joy, Iris.

The Dreamland omegas…here and alive.

These are the faces that haunted my dreams, the ones I swore to find against all odds.

“What the hell, you guys?” I whisper, Luka staying quiet as the girls surround us. “You’re…I can’t believe…”

Ruby pulls back and grasps me by the shoulder, nodding. “We’ll catch up later,” she says. “For now, we need to hurry, okay? Is there anyone else with you?”

“Just Luka.”

“Hi, Luka, nice to meet you again,” Ruby says with a quick smile. “We’re getting the hell out of here. Do you know the way?”

Luka groans. “It’s…yeah, but I’m not sure how long I’ll be conscious.”

Joy frowns. “What’s wrong with him?”

“He’s in withdrawal,” I mutter. “We need to get him to safety right away—help is coming.”

“We know,” Iris chimes in. “Heard the guards talking about an attack from down south and then they started acting like they were going to move us. We just…we didn’t want to let them, not when we knew you were here.”

“So you fought them off?” I ask, incredulous.

“Remember when you used to teach us self-defense classes at Dreamland?” Ruby grins. “Yeah, they seem to have done us some good. Plus, pole dance does wonders for your upper body—“

“We don’t have time for this,” Iris interrupts. “Have you seen Lark?”

“She’s with an ally,” Luka says. “I can take you…I can try to get you there.”

I look from Luka to the girls. “Then Luka, lead the way. Would y’all happen to have another gun?”

Joy frowns. “No…” She gestures at the dead guy by the plexiglass. “But I think he does.”

“Move,” Ruby commands, gesturing with her gun. “You two need to get out of here.”
