And I’m growing too.

Epilogue

Rook

There’s something weird going on in Oasis.

I lived there for a time, and I still have connections in the city they once called Las Vegas. It’s one of the best places to live in this godforsaken continent—if a little expensive—and I had a good life there until Vance took me on as a chemist.

The shit I made there, though? It’s nothing compared to what just hit the streets.

There’s something new in circulation, something that makes alphas go crazy and omegas get horny. Sounds familiar, right? That’s because it is.

Because we shut down their supply up north…and they’re coming on stronger than ever as they attempt to rebuild.

The video call rings as I lean back in my chair, notebook in hand so I can scribble things out if I need to. The call rings a couple more times before a beautiful woman with dark brown skin and short black hair appears on the screen, imperious as ever.

“Inari,” I say with a grin. “What a pleasure to see you.”

“Hi, Rook,” she says, her voice a low purr. “I thought I told you to call me Miss Toure, though…but I digress. That’s not what this is about.”

She leans forward, her eyes intense as she fixes them on me through the screen. “Rook, we have a problem,” Inari says, her words clipped and urgent. “The new supply of that damn drug is hitting the streets hard and fast. It’s causing chaos, and we can’t let it spread like wildfire.”

I nod, my grin fading as I sit up straighter. “I’ve seen it in action here in Pacific City. People are losing their minds out there. And not in a good way.”

Inari’s gaze softens for a moment before hardening again. “We need to find out where it’s coming from and shut it down. Before things get even more out of control.”

“But why me?”

“Because, Mr. Rainier,” she says. “The call is coming from inside the house.”

“Say again?”

“The drug is being shipped in from your city.”

My head spins for a second. There’s no way—I would know, wouldn’t I? Sure, I’ve been a little distracted with Aisling Faye and her polyamorous teledrama, but…

…I must have let something slip.

Shit.

I tap my pen against the notebook, thinking quickly. “I have a few leads I can follow up on. Some old connections still owe me favors. I’ll see what I can dig up.”

She nods once, curtly. “Good. Time is of the essence, Rook. I look forward to your work getting this trash off my streets.”

She terminates the call without a goodbye, and I stare at the blank black screen. Inari knows…but Vance doesn’t? And who the hell is making drugs on my turf?

I stand up and grab my jacket before leaving the lab, heading toward Aisling and Oberon’s room. I could use backup on this, and since Gunnar’s in the wind and Luka’s on the outs, these two are the best I can get. I find them in the living room outside, sitting around and watching TV.

“Hey, Rook,” Aisling says, frowning. “You look worried.”

“I was actually just about to head out to check out some of the competition and could use some backup,” I say. “Anyone fancy a beer?”

Aisling exchanges a glance with Oberon before turning back to me, a sly smile playing on her lips. “I’m always down for a little field trip, Rook.”

Oberon chuckles and stands up, stretching his arms above his head. “Count me in. It’s been a while since we’ve kicked some ass together.”

I grin, relieved that they’re on board. “Good. We’ll start at The Serpent’s Den. I heard they’ve been moving some new product. Time to pay them a visit.”
