You know I’m down.

I just need to forget about Jonah. He doesn’t want to kiss me. He doesn’t even like me.

An hour later, I get an email from him.

To: Thompson, Callie

From: Crown, Jonah

Subject: Good job

“Lemon drop shots. Let’s go.” Luz makes a waving motion at Adriana and me, and we both groan. We’re in a private karaoke room with a bucket of crappy beers and now Luz’s favorite sickly sweet shots. The disco ball is sparkling in the multicolored lights, and my friends and I are dressed to kill, even if it’s just girls’ night.

“You can have mine,” Adriana says.

“Mine too.” I haven’t done a shot since the last time Luz forced me to do one.

Luz waves the tray of shots under my nose like smelling them will make me more interested, instead of repulsed. “Come on, Cal. You said you wanted to let loose. This is the first step.”

“You did,” Adriana adds.

“Not helpful,” I protest, but Luz raises a brow. I dutifully raise my glass to my friends and knock back the shot.

“What’s eating you, anyway?” Luz asks, totally unfazed, as I shudder.

“My boss.”

“Ugh, I feel you. Dr. Davenport is awful. Today he actually told me—”

“Wait. Literally eating you?” Adriana cuts Luz off and gapes at my pink face.

Both girls stare as the blush deepens, and I grab a beer from the bucket.

“Literally. A week ago. On the gym floor. After telling me I could punch him in the face. But only after I’ve learned how to properly throw a punch. And then we got into a fight, but now I think we’re friends? Things are weird.” I sigh.

“Rewind.” Adriana holds up a hand. “You hate him. You told me you hated him. Yes, he’s hot. But also, he’s trying to ruin your life.” She points the straw from her cocktail at me. Adriana is not a beer girl and never will be.

“Yeah, but he’s like really, really hot.” Luz is clearly already feeling the effects of her vodka. She’s a total lightweight.

“Not that hot,” Adriana bursts out.

“I don’t hate him.” It’s true. Not anymore.

“Was it good?” Luz wags her brows.

“Does it matter? He’s so going to fire her for this,” Adriana grumbles.

“This is why I didn’t tell you.” I throw up my hands. “I don’t know what to think. Or how to feel. He and I agreed it would never happen again. It doesn’t matter.”

“Was it good?” Luz repeats. Her eyes are huge.

“You’re like a dog with a bone.” I huff. “It was really good.” I squeeze my eyes shut. “Maybe the best orgasm of my life?” I crack them to see my friends still staring at me in shock.
