Then I remember him not using protection, calling me a liar when I told him I was a virgin, refusing to commit to only me, reminding me I’m his second choice because my sister ran away. All that, along with the power and money he’ll inherit from my father one day helps to instantly cool the rising heat.

No more sex. If I refuse him long enough, maybe he’ll eventually give up and send me back home since Cass is right. He’ll never love me or give up other women.

When Lochlan stops kissing me, he speaks quietly into my ear as our guests clap and cheer for us. “What’s the matter, princess? You don’t like tasting your pussy on my tongue?”

I’m not sure who is more shocked by his words, me or the officiant who suddenly turns away, breaking into a coughing fit. No words come out of my mouth since I didn’t even think about the…flavor until he mentioned it. I was too annoyed with my reaction to his kiss that I didn’t even notice how he tasted.

I don’t have a chance to respond before people come up and start congratulating us.

My dad is one of the first. In fact, he grabs my elbow to drag me away from Lochlan. “What’s wrong? Did Lochlan do something? Did he hurt you? I saw you…flinch away from him but it didn’t deter him.”

“Did you actually ask me what’s wrong? I just married a man who will never love me, who I don’t want to touch me, and definitely don’t want to have kids with. Why would I want him to kiss me?”

Why indeed? It’s a conundrum I can’t seem to figure out myself, which is even more infuriating. Are orgasms from him really worth my dignity? Definitely not.

“Sophie…I’m sorry I put you in this position,” my father says. “But it’s done now. Just—can you try to give Lochlan a chance? If he hurts you, I’ll kill him. If you’re still miserable after a few weeks, you can come home and get an annulment. It’ll be like it never happened.”

“I can come home whenever I want? You would really let me do that?” That’s what my father meant when he said, Then we’ll do what we have to do? He’ll kill Lochlan, or let me leave him?

“This marriage isn’t the end of your life,” he goes on to say. “I hope it’s the beginning. But if not, I don’t want you to be miserable.”

First, my father gives me to Lochlan, but now he says that he’ll gladly yank me away like it’s a game. Like my life is a game to him. I have to play along when required, without knowing the rules or having any say in them.

“I hate you both,” I tell him honestly when actually I hate myself more. Yes, I could’ve backed out, Cass would’ve taken my spot, and it would’ve been her kissing Lochlan just now. Would he have given her the diamond tennis bracelet too?

“It’s too late to complain here and now, isn’t it?” my father grits out, looking as pissed as I am. I shouldn’t have said I hate him. I don’t. I’m just so confused. “The best I can do is offer you a way out if it’s not what you expected.”

“What about making him your heir?” I ask.

My father shrugs as if it’s not important. “If you’re no longer married to him, then I’ll find someone else to take over for me.”

“Good.”

Cass said I needed leverage, and this one is so much better than her stupid suggestion that I get pregnant.

Lochlan

Ican’t fucking believe it.

Salvato is already filling Sophie’s head with annulment bullshit, threatening to remove me as his heir, when we haven’t even been married for ten goddamn seconds.

And Sophie…is she just telling him she doesn’t want me to touch her because she’s pissed at him, or does she actually mean it?

Either way, I interrupt the father daughter argument, taking Sophie’s other elbow, wondering if we’re going to have a tug-of-war fight over her. “The photographer is ready to take some pictures.”

“Great.” She shrugs out of both of our holds to walk away.

I turn to follow her, but Dante’s hand clasps my shoulder, turning me around. “She’s my baby girl. You better be good to her. Worship her and only her.”

“Oh, I worshiped your baby girl real good right before the ceremony,” I say while swiping my thumb over my lips that still taste like Sophie’s pussy.

Salvato’s face turns crimson, no doubt his blood pressure is going sky high. If I’m lucky, maybe he’ll stroke out here and now before he removes me as his heir.

Fucker deserves it.

If you’re no longer married to him, then I’ll find someone else to take over for me. That’s what Salvato told Sophie. I should’ve known better than to get my hopes up that I may not lose everything my father and his father built. It was too easy to be real.
