“You don’t want to do this thing alone, then you won’t. We’ll find them and I guess whichever one wants to be the baby daddy can? Is that how that works?”

“I don’t know. I’ve been thinking about this for two weeks and all I can come up with is telling them and seeing what happens. Maybe none of them will want to be a new daddy again. Or maybe they’ll want a paternity test to decide who needs to step up. I don’t know.” I sat upright again and drained my water. “This tastes just like the water that comes out of your fridge.”

“I know but I love the glass bottle it comes in. I’ve been collecting them for a project I’m working on.” Mallory pulled her purse into her lap and grinned at me as she thumbed at her phone. “Step one: find them.”

I frowned. “Seeing Ryder’s face isn’t the same thing as seeing him in person. I don’t know anything about their day to day lives. How are we-”

“Here. Jake is playing with his band at The Midnight Club tomorrow night. Give me two seconds and I’ll have two tickets for us.”

My stomach flinched. “Um, maybe that’s not a great-”

“And it’s done.” She smirked at me. “The two of us are going to a rock concert tomorrow, Fifi. Find a sitter for Avery.”

I nodded despite the urge I felt to throw up again. That time it had nothing to do with the baby growing inside me but everything to do with my nerves at being rejected by the men I’d been thinking about nonstop since the retreat.

Somehow, while watching the concert from the nosebleed section, Mallory got hammered. I hadn’t noticed because every time the big screen showed Jake at the drums, I had a tiny orgasm. Between the drool threatening to leak out of my mouth and the soaked state of my panties, I wasn’t sure I could keep hydrated. Jake had been so incredibly hot at the retreat that I’d almost convinced myself that he couldn’t be that hot, but he was. The camera loved him and his insanely blue eyes. He was even playing without a t-shirt on and all his tattoos were begging to be licked clean of the sweat coating his body.

Mallory nudged me a little harder than she meant to. “You’re going to get arrested for indecent behavior if you can’t keep it in your pants, sister.”

I rubbed my arm and pushed her back. “You’re the worst wing woman ever. You’re wasted.”

She checked her watch and then grabbed my hand. “Best wing woman ever. Let’s go. I know a bouncer who’s going to let us wait for the show to finish with the rest of the sneaky little groupies.”

I hated the sound of the words coming out of her mouth but she was proving her worth because a few minutes later we were standing in a hallway that the band would have to take to leave. There were probably twenty other women in varying states of nakedness waiting with us.

It wasn’t like I was showing yet but I felt like a whale next to the other women. They were all fixing their makeup and adjusting their breasts. Meanwhile, I was flip-flopping between craving a pickle and wanting to throw up at the very idea of a pickle.

Mallory stood facing the group of women and put her hands on her hips. “Let’s talk about it, ladies. Those vapes are killers. If you want to smoke, smoke natural. You’re too pretty to die young. And what’s that lipstick? Let me see it. This has alcohol in it! Your poor lips!”

I shook my head as Mallory managed to piss off every woman waiting with her health and wellness advice. I’d have to step in if they tried to beat her up but I wasn’t getting involved until I had to.

“The amount of trash these companies put in your products is horrific. Let me guess. You eat meat, too?”

“Back off, Bad Advice Barbie. We’re here to go home with a rockstar, not jumpstart our new year health goals.” That came from a bigger woman in the back of the pack.

“Have you ever tried yoga? You seem like you have a few anger issues. Yoga could really help you.” Mallory pulled a card from somewhere on her body that I couldn’t see and thrust it out. “This is the yogi master I swear by. He’s amazing at what he does and he’s also really good at sex. Tell him I sent you.”

The group was clearly confused by my sister but they were getting rowdy. Thankfully, the double doors we were all waiting by swung open and Mallory lost her audience. As the band stepped into the hallway, the women erupted in cheers and I was crushed against the wall as the women pushed forward.

I watched as Jake walked out and didn’t even look my way. He was leaving without looking around at all. I shot a panicked look at Mallory and she read the situation, even while drunk.

She cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted. “Jake Moreno! You knocked my sister up!”

Jake’s head spun around, as did several other heads in the general vicinity. He spotted Mallory, frowned, and then followed her flailing arm to see me, pinned to the wall with a horrified look on my face. I hadn’t expected Mallory to just scream at him that I was pregnant.

“Get her! Now!” Jake’s voice reached me through the chaos and when I looked back at him, he was pushing his way towards me with not a lot of luck. The crowd of twenty women had grown exponentially and they were all trying to get to him or his bandmates.

I managed to grab Mallory’s hand just as a giant of a man in all black gripped me by the shoulders and told me to follow him through the crowd. I stuck to his back and Mallory stuck to mine until we were outside, breathing in fresh air, and Jake was tugging me into his chest.

His scent filled my senses and I breathed him in while clinging to the hope that he wouldn’t throw me away as soon as he found out that Mallory hadn’t been lying. I realized I was hugging him for way too long and made myself let go.

“I’m so sorry to bother you while you’re working, Jake…” I realized my words were oddly formal and could tell that he was trying not to laugh. Changing course, I pointed at my sister where she was leaning heavily against the guard who’d rescued us. He looked perplexed by her. “That’s my sister, Mallory.”

“I figured. Only someone dressed like Stevie Nicks would’ve forced you into that retreat.” Jake didn’t look away from me as he spoke. “Was she just yelling to get my attention, or…?”
