Now Erin gets confused over the smallest of things, she forgets certain things fairly quickly, and she can’t be left alone as the TBI left her with stress seizures. My family rallied around her, and we all make sure that she is kept calm and happy, but life is never that easy or simple, we just make do.

The bell above the door jingles, and I smile seeing some of my favorite customers.

“DARCY!” gets bellowed, so I come around the side of the counter to greet Drix, also known as Hendrix.

“Hendrix, how are you, bud?” I ask him as he pulls me in for a tight bear hug,

“Hey, Darce.” Lennox’s wife, Astrid, smiles at me with her darling daughter Adley perched on her hip.

“Hi. Hello, Adley. How is my sweetest customer today?” I tap the little girl on the nose gently, making her giggle.

I call her my sweetest customer because she always likes all the candy on her ice cream.

“Mommy said that we can come here today because Uncle Maverick is working her to the bone.”

Astrid laughs, rolling her eyes.

“He is on a mission that’s for sure,” she says.

Hearing his name, my body heats up from the inside and my pussy flutters.

Maverick Burke was my teenage girl crush, even though he is two years younger than me. He was the cool biker brat girls wanted to take their virginity and the guys wanted to be friends with so they could bag the girls.

He would swagger around the halls at school, his jeans fitting him like they were made for him, and he was always in that sleeveless denim jacket. His dark hair matched his dark eyes, and then when he hit puberty, he grew a slight stubble, and I can tell you that even in my teens I would dream of how that would feel against my skin.

“You okay there, Darcy? You look flushed all of a sudden.” I blink, smiling when I look at Astrid.

Her brow is dipped, and I wave off her concern.

“I am fine.” I drop my gaze to her daughter, because she is looking at me like she doesn’t believe my white lie. “So, little Miss, what is today’s combination?”

“Uncle Drix told me that I have to try the coconut and lime.”

“It is a goodie, Miss A,” Drix chimes in, bouncing a little on the balls of his feet.

This man has a heart of gold, and I do not allow any fucker to mess with him. It is not his fault that his parents were fucked-up drunks and junkies and they caused him to have his health issues.

When I moved back to town and I opened this place, Drix was one of my very first customers; he came in with his mother and some of the ladies from the club. They have been regulars ever since.

“Okay, let’s get you guys sorted,” I chime and move behind the counter.

“Miss A and Boom-Boom are not guys, Darcy. They are girly girls.” He laughs.

With my hands on my chest, I widen my eyes and pop my mouth open in shock that he called me on this slipup.

“Oh, well excuse me for getting it wrong. You are right, Hendrix. They are perfect ladies, not guys.”

“Remember that, Miss D,” he replies, but not once looking at me as he takes in the tubs of ice cream through the glass.

“So, what will it be, Drix?”

He taps his chin with his finger and he thinks, humming while he does. This is Hendrix, this is his routine, but I let him have it, because he is not hurting anyone.

“Hey, have you been to Wicked Sugar yet?” Astrid asks me.

“Yeah. Her cakes are heaven. Lilith designed a cake for Erin’s birthday last month. It was a two-tier one with the most impressively designed Ferris wheel that was purely made of sugar. Erin loved it.”

“I am getting her to make…” She nods her head to Adley, who is mirroring Drix’s position, their faces pressed to the glass. “C.A.K.E for her birthday. You should come; we are having a little gathering at the clubhouse,” she offers.
