“Shit. Let’s go.” I push to my feet and follow him out.

I get into my car, and he does his, and we make our way down to the main street, where Darcy’s Delights is situated.

We have the lights and sirens going because we need to get there as fast as we can; I pray to fuck that no one is hurt.

When we arrive, there is a crowd of people gathered out front of the building looking in, which tells me that the perp is no longer around. Glass covers the floor to one side, so a window has clearly gone through.

Parking my patrol car, I jump out and make my way inside, with Deputy Andrew hot on my heels, then turn back.

“Alright, people, make space.” I instruct my two other officers, “Clear these folks back. I don’t know what we are dealing with yet. Get the tape up.” They nod.

I scan the area, looking for what might have gone on, when my gaze lands on the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life.

Her dark curly hair, hanging just below her shoulders, her wide eyes red and puffy, evidence that she has been crying. Her body is something I would usually gravitate toward, but right now I need to focus on the call.

I step over to her and the two others who are surrounding her.

“Hi, I am Sheriff Warren. Can anyone tell me what happened here?”

The beauty looks up at me, her gaze meeting mine and it is like someone just sucker-punched me in the gut. Her beauty sucks all of the air out of my lungs, but I steel my features.

Her eyes widen a fraction, then she licks her lips and speaks.

“I am Darcy Owens, owner of Darcy’s Delights. I was working behind the counter, my other member of staff”—she points to a teenage girl— “was with me, and one staff member was in the back. It all happened so fast.” She shakes. The need to be close to her, to touch her so that my touch comforts her, takes over.

I take her hands in mine, offering her a smile. I push down the electricity I feel running between us and I know that she feels it too. Her gaze shoots to mine, lust swirling with her fear.

“It is okay, take your time.”

She nods, offering me a small smile. “We were just working; thankfully, it was a slow hour, so we didn’t have many customers, when two men came in, all dressed in black, holding guns on us. Telling me to hand over all of our money.”

“She pushed me to the floor behind the counter. Darcy protected me,” the teen cries.

“You did good watching out for her.” I squeeze Darcy’s hands. “Could you tell me any other information? Skin color. Age. Accent. Tattoos even.”

Darcy clears her throat.

“One was white, I got a glimpse of his wrist when he waved the gun in my face.” I grind my teeth, ready to hunt this fucker down for scaring her. “The other guy didn’t get close enough, he stood closer to the door. They sounded like they were from here, no real accent standing out and I only saw his wrist. They ran when someone said they had phoned 9-1-1. They only got a few hundred dollars.”

“Okay. That’s good information. Do you have security cameras in here?”

She is already shaking her head. “I own an ice cream parlor. I didn’t think there was a need for them.” She sighs. “Maybe there is now.”

I nod in agreement. “It is a good idea. I will be right back.” She nods and I stand.

Turning, I walk back to Andrew.

“Check the street for any cameras. Ask people walking past when it happened. Someone has to have seen something.”

“You got it. They okay?” He looks over my shoulder at Darcy. I can see the concern on his face and for some strange reason, I hate seeing him looking at her like that.

Stepping to the side one step, blocking his view of her, I reply. “Shaken, but not hurt. Go.” I nudge my head toward outside and he leaves.

Turning back to Darcy, I hear the faint rumble of pipes. Fuck.

I may be the law in Fort Lauderdale, but fuck me, the Rugged Skulls MC runs it just as much. Both the club and us only want a good clean and safe FL, but I know deep down that the club are into some shady shit, like the Rugged Hunters. I know that they deal with things on their own but at the same time help people the law can’t.

My hands go to my hips, sitting just above my utility belt, as my head drops to my chest and I sigh.
