Dealing with Magnum, the club’s President, will be a ball ache, something I do not need right now.

A soft touch presses against my back and I feel that touch all the way to my soul. Looking to the side, I see it is Darcy. The sweet smile that graces her face but does not reach her eyes, makes my heart skip with excitement but also squeeze with pain seeing the fear still there.

“The club are good people, Sheriff. They will only want to be here to help, plus I am friends with some of the women.”

“Cal,” I state before I can stop myself.

“I’m sorry?” she asks, frowning.

“My name is Cal. I’d like you to call me Cal, not Sheriff.”

This time when she smiles it lightens up her face, making her eyes crinkle at the sweet touch.

She nods. “Cal, they are checking on me.”

“Sheriff.” My name gets called.

I tear my gaze from Darcy’s to see Magnum and Opal walk through the door, followed by Royal, Jack, and Maverick.

Of course, he would be here.

“Magnum. Boys. What brings you here?”

I look at each of the men, lingering on Maverick for a longer time. I expect him to be looking at me but his gaze is bouncing between me and the dark-haired stunner next to me.

“We heard about what happened. I needed to come down and make sure that Darcy and her staff were good. The people of this town may be under the law’s protection, but Darcy is also under the club’s, as she is a friend of the Rugged women,” he states.

“They were not harmed, just shaken. Two gunmen came in. They took money and bolted when someone yelled that they had called us.”

“You okay, honey?” Opal asks Darcy.

“I am a bit shaken, like C—I mean the Sheriff, said. My staff are okay too. The shop is insured so they will help with the shattered window.”

“We will sort that,” comes from Maverick.

Darcy’s breath hitches at his words. “It is fine, Maverick, my insurance company will send someone to fix it,” she offers, but he is shaking his head.

“We take care of our own. Me and the boys will sort it out. It could take days to get someone out.”

Darcy licks her lips, dropping her gaze to her feet, looking away from his intense one and nods.

“Okay, thank you.”

“Don’t need your thanks, baby; we do this for our people.”

“Okay.”

“Show me and Royal where the cleaning supplies are and we will get this place back to normal,” Jack says.

“We will go and check to see if anyone outside knows anything,” Magnum states.

“You do know that I have deputies out there doing their jobs, right?”

Magnum shrugs and walks away, and Opal chuckles but follows his president.

“Sheriff, a word,” this comes from Maverick.

I gesture with a chin lift to the back of the shop.
