I’m not going to lie. A twinge of jealousy rips through me. I know she’s not interested in Cole, and there’s no way she’d betray me by going after someone I liked, but it doesn’t stop the feelings. I’m jealous that they have an easy banter that I can’t have with him.

Shit. My shoulders tighten. What if he likes her? My heart skips a beat as sweat pops on my palms. She might not go after him, but there’s no reason he can’t develop feelings for her.

After he leaves, she jogs over to me as I straighten my back, preparing for the bad news. “What were you doing? Did he ask you out?”

“No. Have you lost your mind?” She slaps her hand over my forehead. “You’ve had a crush on Cole as long as I’ve known you. Do you honestly think I’d put the moves on your man?”

“He’s not mine.”

“Give it time, sister. I think he will be.”

“Yeah, ri-i-i-ght. Even if he were interested, he would back off because of Connor.”

“Your brother can get a life. Keep an open mind and be ready for the photo shoot.”

“There’s no way he said yes.” It’s never going to happen. His face said it all.

“He’ll say yes.”

Like I expected. He said no. Why does that feel like a kick in the gut? “Whatever. And you know I don’t do couples shoots.”

I tried once with a guy in college, and that was the last time. There’s something disturbing about grinding on a guy you don’t know and having the photographic evidence blasted on social media. And that’s nothing compared to his breath–mouthwash and onions. Truly disgusting.

To make matters worse, my brothers came unglued and weren’t appeased by my explanation that it was a business obligation and nothing more.

“I know.” She stands back from the camera and gnaws on her bottom lip. “But the author I’ve been working with has mentioned wanting couples’ images for graphics.” She whispers something under her breath.

I frown and wrinkle my nose. “What?”

“BDSM.”

“BDSM, what?” My heart lurches into my throat, causing me to cough. “You’re not asking me to do a couple’s BDSM photo shoot, are you?”

What’s wrong with her? This is crazy. She straightens her shoulders. “As a matter of fact. I am.”

“You’re making this up.”

“No.” She shakes her head. “I’m not. I hadn’t brought it up yet. But she wants a scene with a master and slave. Complete with chains and leather whips.” One corner of her mouth curves upward. “And leather fetish lingerie.”

“No.” I clutch my chest to ward off the heart attack that’s going to take me out of this world once and for all. “You’re crazy. I don’t even know who you are.”

“You’re the crazy one.” Layla rolls her eyes.

“No, you are.” I laugh and shake my head. “My brothers would lose their minds if Cole took you up on the offer.”

“But you wouldn’t say no?”

“Say no to what? Dying, right here?” Shit. My armpits are sweating.

“No, stupid. Doing a sexy, naughty photo shoot with Cole?”

“Sure. Why not.” I shrug. “It’s not going to happen. There’s no way he wants to do this.”

“Yes!” Her eyes dance as she pumps her arm in the air, completely ignoring reality.

Cole strides across the parking lot. It’s not fair. He gets better looking every day. He slips his sunglasses on and hops into his pickup. How would it feel to crawl all over him? Yeah, it would feel that good. I can’t do it. Not without putting it on blast how crazy I am about him.
