“Sure.” He’s gone as quick as he came. Strange. I frown. Shit. He’s being as shifty as I am. He never goes to the stadium. Like. Ever. Even when we were kids, we were running around between the concessions and the field.

Moments later, Harbor, Layla, and Kameron approach me, and it takes everything I have not to pull her into my arms and kiss her.

“Hey.” Her smile is soft as her eyes rake over me.

“Hey.”

“What did Connor want?”

“For me to tell him who I’m seeing and to have a happily ever after.”

Her mouth drops open, causing Layla and Kameron to laugh at her expression.

She snaps her mouth shut. “He did not.”

The crowd goes wild as the announcer names the starting lineup.

“Actually, he did.” I return to our previous conversation as the cheering dies down.

“Hold the phone. He knows you’re seeing someone.” She glances all around us. “And doesn’t have a problem with one of his buddies settling down?”

“Apparently not.” I pat Kameron’s shoulder. “How’s it going?”

“Good.”

Everyone stands at the direction of the announcer as we listen to the Star-Spangled Banner.

Layla frowns and rubs her stomach. “Not so good. I’ll be glad when this morning sickness decides to only be morning sickness.”

“That sucks, Layla.” I drop my arm to my side to avoid grabbing Harbor’s hand. “Emilia’s morning sickness only lasted a few months with both kids. How much longer until then for you?”

“Several weeks,” she sighs. “I’m praying I’m so lucky.”

The announcer calls out the names of the captains of the teams as they gather in the middle of the field to flip the coin for starting possession.

Harbor moves between Kameron and I as we wait for the results.

“Do you think he’ll be mad that it’s me?”

“I don’t know.” I shrug as I consider my conversation with him, and everything that’s gone on before. “Maybe. Probably. It’s hard to say. He’s always made a big deal about me staying away from you.”

She smiles and glances at me out of the corner of my eye.

“You in particular?”

“Everyone, but….” Did he make a big deal about any of the other guys staying away from Harbor? No. Not really. But there wasn’t a time I’ve been around Harbor since she began developing that he didn’t smart off something. Has he always known I have feelings for her?

“It was generally geared toward me more than anyone else.”

“He knew I liked you.”

“So, it’s your fault.” I wink at her as the crowd around us cheers for the home team as the punting team runs out onto the field.

“Maybe.” Her eyes twinkle with humor. “Probably. Or maybe he knew you couldn’t stop staring at my ass.”

“Pip, my eyes have always been all over you. Not just your ass. And when I get you home tonight, it’s not just my eyes that are going to devour you.” I turn to face her, suddenly not caring whether someone overhears us. “I’ve missed you.”

“I’ve missed you, too.” Her eyes glisten.
