I concentrate on the ceiling again. It is a nice ceiling. Paige is right to be impressed.

“Val! What did I tell you?!” Nash groans.

“Not to fall for her.”

“Exactly! This…” He runs a hand over his face.

“Relax, babe,” Paige says. “It’s not like he can help how he feels.”

“Yeah, but… this is bad, dude. Real bad. You can’t tell her, okay?”

I scrunch the side of my face and shrug.

“You told her,” Nash mutters.

“I mean… technically, she told me first. We were even a secret couple for a day before I blew everything up this afternoon.”

“What?!” Paige and Nash screech in unison. Is that a couples thing? Fun. There’s so much for Larinda and me to look forward to.

“Yeah, so, the ‘crush’ is sort of a bit more,” I say.

Their shocked, slightly horrified expressions tell me this situation is as bad as I feared. Might be worse, actually.

“She’s engaged!” Paige informs me.

“Yeah. I’m aware.”

“To someone else!”

“Also aware.”

“You’re her producer, dude,” Nash says.

“Am I? Wait. Knew that too.”

So glad they’re here to help.

“Shit, shit, shit…” Nash mumbles, locking his fingers on his head.

My sister has been stunned into wordlessness, which in my experience, is a very hard thing to do.

“Who else knows about this?” Nash asks.

“No one. You shouldn’t even know, I just have no clue how to fix this situation without your help, and I don’t know how you can help if you aren’t aware of that tiny hiccup.”

“Tiny hiccup?!” Paige cries. “Seriously, Val. What are you thinking? You can’t have a secret relationship with an engaged superstar!”

“You already know the engagement isn’t real,” I say.

“Yes, but she doesn’t!”

“Actually, she does, just not for the right reason.”

“Fine, then the rest of the world doesn’t,” Paige snaps.

That part is true.

“This is a disaster waiting to happen, man,” Nash says. “Like, it honestly couldn’t get much worse for you.”
