“From what I can make out, they’re real cops,” Balor reports. “Responding to… Shite.”

“What?” I bite out, frustrated.

“According to the logs I hacked into, Seattle PD got calls over the last few days with reports of suspicious activity on your block. No details. They’ve been patrolling your street.”

My throat tightens, I’ve been watched the last few days and didn’t realize. We went for a fucking walk yesterday.

I could have been gunned down on my own damn street.

“What are the cops doing?” I ask calmly, holding on.

I honestly don’t know how my brothers would react if I sounded like I was losing my shit, the way I am.

“Walking around the Escalades. That’s what your guests drove up in?”

“Yeah.”

“Cadillacs aren’t the Astoria Bratva’s style,” Eoghan says. “Alexei is a Lincoln man.”

“Hang on, the guys who had your house surrounded are walking toward their cars.” Balor’s voice gets tight.

I’m ready to be sick. I’ve seen this movie. The bad guys always put bullets in the dumb cops’ heads.

“They’re leaving,” Balor says.

“The cops?” I ask, furious.

“No, the Escalades.”

“How many guys did you see, Balor?” I try to think how many got out of the car, only Sophie saw them first.

“Six. You got your alarm on?” Balor asks me.

“Yeah.”

“Nothing tripped it,” Balor says. “I don’t see anyone hanging around your house at the moment.”

My legs give out, and I’m kneeling in the closet.

“They’ll be back,” Eoghan says. “Get out of there.”

“And go where? I have Sophie. I have an infant. I have a lactating mother.”

I don’t have an updated escape plan with packed bags for Ana or the baby. If I get out on the open road, I’m a sitting duck.

I don’t have protection. I don’t have…

“I need Lachlan,” I admit quietly. “You guys win. I can’t do this alone.”

“That means your ass comes home,” Eoghan sounds very dictatorial, especially since there’re two brothers who outrank him. Sort of. “You took in Stasia. You put yourself at risk. We can’t protect you on a different coast.”

“Fine.” What the fuck did I just agree to?

All noise on the other end stops.

“I’m texting Lachlan,” Eoghan says and pauses. “He said he’ll have Kieran’s plane wheels up in thirty.”

“That fast? He didn’t ask why?”
