“You’re our fucking brother. I don’t care if you live on the North Pole. You call, we come. Da gave us those instructions years ago. When he was running things, he always kept a team ready to fly to California, or Seattle, wherever the hell you two spoiled brats lived.”

Spoiled because we wanted careers helping people. All while my brothers shouldered the responsibility of protecting my father’s crime legacy.

“We have a five-hour flight to fill the hours,” Balor states the obvious. “Go wait in the safe room with your family.”

“You mean hide.” My heart pinches.

“That’s what the room is for,” Eoghan says.

“I’m dropping off,” Balor announces. “I have the Escalades’ plates. I’m going to figure out where they came from.” The line goes dead, not waiting for a string of goodbyes.

That leaves me on the line with Eoghan.

“Have you heard from Cormac since that night?” he asks.

“No.” I close my eyes, not wanting to think this has anything to do with him.

As soon as my brothers get a hold of him, his life is basically over. He’ll still be breathing. Kieran will never allow him to be killed.

Harmed, yes.

Taught a lesson, hell yes.

“I guess Alexei found out his daughter is here,” I mutter.

Since it’s looking like both his grandchildren are half-Irish, he has to come to the table in good faith. I’m also forcing my family to draw a truce with the Bratva.

“Riordan will handle Alexei. Lachlan’s got a good relationship with their enforcer’s number two.” Eoghan clears his throat. “Where are you right now?”

“My weapons closet. One floor below the safe room.”

“You’re an O’Rourke, all right.” He sounds proud of me. “If you’re armed and not going to wait in your safe room, I suggest you start packing. You and your family will be home tonight in time for pumpkin pie.”

The line goes dead.

Getting my breath back, I open the door but freeze.

My house has too many damn windows. 1.3 million for a view that now can get me a bullet in the head from someone who doesn’t even have to step foot inside the house.

I’m guessing my resale value will drop if I have to sell it as a place where a bloodbath happened.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

Ana

“You kissed my daddy. On the lips. He said I love you,” Sophie speaks resentfully, leaning against the far wall of the safe room holding the baby.

Her blonde hair sparks a memory of Katya when she came to live with us. Why do I remember Katya as so naive and fragile?

Sophie has a steely maturity about this I wasn’t expecting.

“Sweetie, let me check out this room first.” I didn’t notice much that other night once Darragh took his cock out.

My eyes were only for him.

With Sophie’s eyes bearing down on me, I casually look around and notice cubies along the back wall.

I sigh in relief, seeing an EpiPen case for her, but shudder at the portable toilet bowl. Then I tense up, seeing two guns locked into a metal holster. On a hook, swings a key that I stick into my pocket.
