“And them finding you here was my fault.” My throat tightens. “They helped break me out of rehab. I said I’d get you, but I had no intention of turning you over to them. I was going to immediately tell you everything and then tell you to call your father to send his men for us.”

“For money.”

“For my survival.” I stop and brush a hand down the back of my neck. “I had no idea you and Darragh…” I sneak a look at Sophie, whose eyes are wide and her mouth is hanging open. “I had no idea my brother fell head over heels in love with you. So much that he threatened me. Me? His twin. His other half.”

“I went into labor a few days after that,” Ana says, pacing. “And they’ve been waiting.”

“I’ve been waiting, too.” I grip my collar. “To take them out. Get to you and tell you the truth. You need to go home, Ana.”

“We’re going home tonight,” Darragh mutters, hoarse from the pain he’s hiding.

“What?” Sophie shrieks.

Ana leaves my side to kneel next to Darragh.

His other arm immediately lifts to drape across her knees. I’m not even sure he realizes he did it.

Fuck, he is in love with her.

What’s not to love? She’s gorgeous, smart, fun. She just comes with a murderous father.

As I do.

“I called Eoghan,” Darragh says. “Lachlan is on his way.”

“When were you going to tell me this?” Ana asks him calmly.

“When I got back in here after getting the diaper bag. But I got shot, and it sort of slipped my mind.”

Ana exhales. “Right.”

“We talked about this, Ana.” They continue a two-way conversation like I’m not even in the room. “We agreed, for your father’s sake. For his sanity, which will keep a lot of innocent people alive. And the not so innocent.” Darragh’s eyes stray to me.

“This is my fault.” Ana dumps her head in her hands. “It’s all my fault.”

“No. It’s mine. Every bit of it.” I stand up, realizing I need to finish what I started. “Give me the Badger, brother.”

“No. You can’t fight them. Wait for Lachlan. He’s bringing an army.”

Ana hands my son to me.

“Here. Hold him,” she whispers. “We’ll figure something out. Darragh and I are in love. We’re getting married. But you are his father, Cormac.”

“And you’re not working for her father.” Darragh exhales. “I’ll talk to Eoghan.”

My head is spinning but looking at this tiny, scrunched face of an angel, I’m ready to break down.

“What’s his name?” I choke out, glancing at a life I created.

“James Patrick. After your grandfather.”

That makes my eyes water, as guilt and shame well up inside me.

“No one is innocent here,” Ana keeps speaking low. “Let’s not pretend we didn’t all grow up in the shadow of unspeakable crimes committed by men we love.”

“I’m pretty sure that sorry sod down there is innocent,” I say about Darragh.

“He did abduct me from the courthouse,” Ana says.
