“We can’t stay here.” Darragh pulls our eyes together. “You have to go see your father. That’s the only way this stops.”

“Aye,” Lachlan jumps in.

“Can I have a minute with my fiancée, Lach?” Darragh bravely stands up to his brother who dropped everything to be here for us.

Lachlan shrugs like it’s impossible to insult him and waltzes away as if it’s just a normal day for him. I guess it is. Bullets. Blood. Murder. Mayhem.

“Sorry, I know you’re uncomfortable around him.” Darragh presses a kiss to my forehead.

“I’ll have to get used to it, won’t I? I want to be close to my sister.”

Darragh smiles, but his eyes linger on the window. “Oh shit.”

“What?” I’m definitely triggered because those words make me want to throw up. “Who’s here now?”

Darragh glances down at me and then J.P. “Kieran.”

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

Darragh

Ishudder seeing Kieran get out of the limo that just pulled up, and only feel a little better when Eoghan follows him.

For months they kept the king in the dark, and the fact that he’s outside my shot-up home suggests he’s been briefed.

Fully.

God, he must be furious.

But at who?

My heart pounds, worrying about Cormac.

“I haven’t seen Kieran in years,” Ana says, fear lacing her tone. “He looks…”

“He’s a wildly happy married man.” I exhale. “All I see is wild.”

“Definitely wild.”

“Did you talk to your sister?” I ask about Katya who wandered down the hall.

“I did.” Ana smiles and tears fill her eyes.

“Are you satisfied that she’s happy?”

“So far.” She swallows and then moves J.P. to the other breast. “I was so worried about you.”

“Now I’m truly an O’Rourke.” I tug my bandaged bicep. “I faced death and caught a bullet in the arm.”

“Are you going to get a tattoo to cover the scar like Cormac suggested?”

I narrow my eyes on her. “Do you want me to get a tattoo?”

“I’ve wanted one. Since we both don’t have any, let’s get one together.” She then whispers, “Your brother tattooed his name across my sister’s fucking neck.”

I hide a snicker, not surprised at all. “We don’t have to start with something like that.” I stroke her hair. “But I don’t mind branding you as mine.”

“Are you really telling my father that you got me pregnant and then just left me in Vegas?”
