“I love you.” But I shake my head. “And it’s just Ana O’Rourke. That’s me. That’s who I want to be.”

“That’s who you were meant to be.”

“Do you believe that?”

“With every bone in my body, my love.”

CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE

Ana- One Month Later

Sweating, and breathing heavily, I hold him down. “I did it. I got you!”

Lachlan laughs, lying on his back. “That’s because I’ve barely slept.”

Seeing that he’s barely slept to troll the streets to keep everyone safe, I give him a break.

“Still, I wrestled you to the ground.”

“This one time.” Lachlan snaps his legs out from under him and next, he’s back on his feet.

All six-six of this imposing enforcer still takes my breath away and scares me a little. But I crack a smile.

“Plus, I hear Darragh has a special night planned for you.” He shakes out his dark wavy hair.

I freeze. “Special night?”

Lachlan lowers his eyes, giving me a once-over. “Six weeks.”

My chest tightens. Has it been six weeks already? Unlike the moms I met in Seattle who I later stalked on social media and who’ve been posting daily pictures of their babies with a sign, I get lost in J.P. and I’m not counting any days.

They’re all a blur that melts into a pot of happiness I never thought possible.

“Darragh talks about me like that?” I cross my arms, not sure how I feel about him discussing our sex life with someone besides me.

"Aye, he’s crazy about you. Can’t shut the fuck up, so we let him blabber.”

I consider Darragh’s twin is in Ireland and for the first time, he’s close with his older brothers. They’re his best friends, something he never had besides Cormac.

Katya and I talk every single day. Sometimes more than once. I’ve been to their house, which they’re still thinking of selling, but they’re not in any rush. She’s loved and taken care of, that’s all that matters to me.

She’s my best friend again, and with Kieran restoring Sunday family dinners, I’ve been getting to know Priscilla and Isabella, too. As well as their mysterious sister Shea.

“I’m utterly crazy about him, too,” I answer Lachlan.

“I can tell. Good work today, sister.” He high-fives me.

These advanced Krav Maga lessons with Lachlan have made me feel unstoppable.

Taking over as my father’s underboss has been going very smoothly, too. After the massacre of Maxsim and his loyalists, the brotherhood came to heel under Sergei. He’s been an insightful counsel for me. The brotherhood respects me. Most importantly, my father respects me.

We’re mending our relationship day by day as well. His favorite days with me are when I bring my son.

I leave the O’Rourke private training gym, and with my guard in tow, I step into the armored Mercedes Papa bought me.

My driver brings me home. Darragh and I bought one of those sprawling Tudor-style houses. Behind iron gates, of course. I’m the Bratva Underboss, and my last name is O’Rourke.

I’m surprised Darragh didn’t have a moat put in.
