“This is who we are now, huh? You gave yourself permission to grab my boobs anytime you want?”

“You gave me permission with hard nipples when I saw them and a wet cunt whenever I slid my dick inside you.”

I can’t argue with him. I’ve gone off the rails as far as using his body for sex. I just can’t get enough.

Eoghan is a cinnamon roll in the kitchen and a spicy taco in the bedroom. It’s like he’ll die if he doesn’t take care of me like this. He’s dangerous and will protect me, that I know for sure. I could walk down a dark alley in the worst part of Vegas with him, knowing as long as I have him next to me, I’ll be safe.

Eoghan is also…real. His cards are always on the table. He’s always been upfront with me.

App man, masked-man Johnny, isn’t real. People ghost others on apps all the time and even delete them. He was never a steady solution.

That was just hot sex. But I have that with Eoghan. And all these other benefits.

The elevator arrives on the third floor. Eoghan, taking my hand, looks both ways before exiting.

At a nurse’s station, he says, “Elena Diamond?”

A nurse in cobalt blue scrubs and glossy-dark curls scans her monitor. “They just moved her to a private room.”

“Private room?” I ask, coming abreast of Eoghan. “She was moved? Is there a problem?”

Glossy nurse stares at Eoghan, who turns to me. “I made a few calls before I came to your apartment.” He brushes his lips on my forehead. “Next, I’ll get Balor to download your Ma’s records and have Darragh look at them. In the meantime, I had her moved to a private suite. And told them to send me the bills.”

My jaw drops. I have no words. It’s not that he just throws his money around, he got his brothers involved. Even Darragh, whose wife I tried to put in jail!

“Room number?” Eoghan asks while my brain processes everything.

“Suite 210, end of the hall, hook a left.”

“Thank you.” Eoghan’s hand winds around my waist and steers me that way. “Look at this.”

Inside another patient room, four beds are lined up with only room for a nightstand and a stool in between them. It reminds me of a ward in dystopian movies.

“This hospital was hit hard after covid. They lost a lot of staff. They lost a lot of funding.”

“Why did you… What made you think—”

“Because you’re mine.” He brushes a loose hair from my eyes. “You’re mine to take care of. Right now, this is how I take care of you. By taking care of your mother.”

Arm around my shoulder, he leads me out of the horribly cramped room. The further we get down the hall, I see more of what he meant about this hospital’s lack of proper care.

My God, Mom is scheduled to be operated on here.

I shake all the fear away and clear my head. We swing to the left, and before we reach Mom’s room, Eoghan pulls me aside and gently kisses my mouth. “I’m right here. I’m not leaving you. I’ll get you through this.”

His mother is sick, too. That’s why he knows how I feel.

I nod and kiss him back. “Thank you.”

He snickers. “I told you. You don’t ever have to thank me.”

I step inside Mom’s room and it’s dreary, but at least it’s a decent size with a television and proper seating for guests.

“Jilly!” Mom shrieks, and I rush to her bedside to hug her. “You got here so fast.”

“I had a little help.” I step back and tug Eoghan’s arm. “This is Eoghan, he got us a plane.”

“You’re dating a lad with a plane?”
