I rub a hand down my face. “I don’t know. Reno is a retirement town, can Darragh find me a specialized surgery center?”

Fucking ambulance brought her here.

“Let me look around,” Balor says while Darragh still has us on hold.

“Bale, check this out. Her Ma’s from Whitechurch. Speaks like us.”

“You’re kidding. Looks like you’ll be keeping the blood pure after all,” he snickers.

“Shite, you heard I said that? Are Kieran and Lachlan mad at me? I didn’t mean—”

“I’m fucking with you. I guess you’re serious about her.”

My body goes still. “I am, Balor. Jesus fucking Christ, I did all this without one single second thought. It just came naturally to me. She has this hold on me.”

“Maith thú,” Balor congratulates me in Gaelic. “So, there’s a new state-of-the-art facility about a mile from the hospital. According to their website, the docs are top notch. Hopkins, Oxford, Northwestern.”

“How do I get her ma transferred there?”

“I’m here,” Darragh says, getting back on the line. “Balor send me the hospital’s info and I’ll call over there right now and arrange a transport.”

“I’m in your debt, both of you. I’m hanging up. Call me back when the transport is set up.”

Now I have to convince Jillian to let me steal her ma out of this horrible place.

CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE

Jillian

“You didn’t mention you were dating an Irish stud,” Mom coos, her accent coming on thicker than usual.

“We just met.”

“In Vegas? He lives there?”

This woman will be sedated soon, I can’t risk her talking.

“He’s on a work assignment. Mom, what happened? How did you fall?”

She exhales. “I was walking down the steps, and it was like my lower half wasn’t there. Next thing I know, I was tumbling down. Bollocks, the pain.”

“How did you call an ambulance?”

“I had my phone with me.” She glances at her nightstand where it sits charging.

“Were you playing Candy Crush while going down the stairs?”

She smiles sheepishly.

I scooch next to her. “When was your last bone density scan?”

“I don’t know.”

“Well, I get time off at Christmas and that week, we’ll get you all up to date on your screenings.”

I don’t even dare ask when her last mammo was.

“Is Danny coming?” she asks, painful hope in her voice.
