Using his name will give this animal pause. I don’t want to involve him, but if it saves my life, I must.

Lazaro presses the barrel of his gun against my head as I hear his belt jingling.

“Stay still. Or I won’t use any lube.”

Shit. This is happening.

Taking a breath, something sharp needles my chest. The hard steel of my Ruger inside my purse presses against my breast. They never searched me.

I imagine reaching for my gun, but if I’m not quick enough, Lazaro will figure out what I’m doing, and he’ll pull his trigger first. Maybe if I can bear him being inside me for a moment or two, he’ll be distracted, and I can get his gun away from him. Or grab mine …

A loud crash twists my head as the door is kicked in.

“What the fuck?” Lazaro swings his gun away from my head.

I look up through watery eyes and see…

Eoghan.

Pointing a gun right back at Lazaro.

“Get your grimy hands the fuck off my woman.”

CHAPTER SEVENTY-NINE

Eoghan

Iopen the door to find Jillian laid out, ass up, the arse that belongs to me, about to be fucked by this scumbag.

I’m controlling my rage only because I have to keep my head. But seeing this animal on top of my Jillian is ripping me apart piece by piece.

This is what it feels like to watch the woman you love about to be raped.

Pointing a gun at the Borgia Underboss, I have no choice other than to pull the trigger. “Ciao, motherfucker.”

My bullet misses Lazaro as he flattens himself on top of Jillian. His brawny hand comes up and shoots back at me.

I dive, hitting the carpet, and roll behind a massive, but cheap desk in the center of the room. Before more people come in, I kick over a file cabinet to block the door.

This small office is no place for a shootout. And I just took away my exit. Not that I’d make it back down that hall.

“You’ll never get out of here alive, Scava, especially if you touch my woman again,” I yell.

“My guards are everywhere. It’s you my friend, who won’t get out of here alive,” he returns.

As if on cue, the doorknob rattles followed by sharp knocking.

“Wait for my order,” Lazaro barks to whoever’s on the other side.

I can’t slit the guards’ throats and tie up the women working next door all by myself. All with an army bearing down.

Not that I’d leave Jillian in here. I’ll take a bullet for her.

From a space between the desk and a chair, I see my diamond on the couch covering her head. “Don’t move, Jillian,” I yell.

I can’t protect her any place other than right here.

“I know who you are, O’Rourke.” Lazaro keeps his gun pressed to Jillian’s back. “You fell for my trap.”
