Still holding Jillian in the backseat of Griffin’s Escalade, we roll up the driveway, while he ends the call he’s been on for a few minutes.

“The women, the wee-ones, and a few nannies are all at the black site,” Griffin reports. “Nico Scava is set to land in fifteen minutes. According to Shane, there are still no calls to any other family. No one here is mobilized.”

“Balor checked with the Gallos himself,” I say, opening my door. “Sparkles, get out this side with me please.”

“Can you call me Jillian in front of your family?” she whispers, looking terrified. “Please?”

“Aye.” I kiss her.

Which I plan to do a lot. I never want her to think I don’t fucking love every inch of her.

“But please, let me do the talking.” I lead her to the house via the kitchen.

“Seen not heard?” she asks wryly.

“My brothers are in charge here.”

She nods.

“If you’re asked a question, be honest. There’re no secrets between my brothers and me. That is why we’re solid. My da would never allow a war to break out between us.”

The kitchen door opens and Riordan struts out. Seeing him, my gut twists, and I’m so fucking glad to be home.

I allow myself a spec of sympathy for Nico Scava. He had one brother. And we killed him.

Kieran follows Riordan with Lachlan on their six.

Kieran raises his hand, a signal for us to stop walking. Jillian and I halt.

I hold her next to me. “Kieran, I know this is a bad time, but this is Jillian Diamond. I love her, she’s having my baby, and we’re getting married.”

“Jillian,” my brother says, but doesn’t attempt to touch her.

Things are tense, and there will be no welcome home or congratulatory hugs right now.

“We’ll have the pleasure of getting to know you soon enough, lass,” Kieran continues. “But I insist you let Shane Quinlan take you to our black site to wait with our wives.”

She shakes her head, no. “This is my fault, I—”

“All the more reason for you to be guarded, little one,” Lachlan says.

“I understand Nico hasn’t asked for back up by anyone local,” I say.

“As far as we know,” Riordan says.

“My gut says, he’s not here to kill anyone,” I insert myself as an asset here with insight as I usually do. Not a liability running to hide behind a mother’s skirt. “And if he wants Jillian in return for what we’ve done, I’m not going to stick her in a warehouse with your wives and wee-ones, putting them in danger.” I pull her closer. “No, she doesn’t leave my side, Kieran. If you send her away, I go with her. But we’re not going to the black site, we’ll disappear.”

I wait for someone to blurt, You’d chose a woman over your brothers?

But I’m looking at three married men who would hate to make that choice. And I expect them to choose their wives.

“He’s right,” Lachlan says. “Inside now. Everyone.”

CHAPTER EIGHTY-NINE

Jillian

“Nico Scava’s motorcade is at the gate,” the mountain of a man they call Lachlan says, standing up.
