He looks at me, completely outraged. "Damn it, Andrea. I did it for you!"

He slams the table and stands up, pointing at Damien. "Because this asshole is stalking you!"

For a moment, my heart stops.

Logan's words freeze me in place, but Damien merely seems curious.

"Well, this is interesting." He raises an eyebrow and releases me slowly. He stays by my side, but he’s clearly confronting Logan now. "Explain to me why you think I’ve been stalking Andrea."

"Don't play innocent, you fucking asshole." Logan bursts out laughing. "If you think those messages, the ones that swore you'd kill me if I ever got close to Andrea again, were ever going to work, you're sorely mistaken."

"What messages?" I ask.

"The ones this asshole sent me."

Logan picks up his phone and starts to scroll through picture after picture of what appears to be a series of letters.

Damien walks over and looks at the phone. "I didn't send you this," he states.

His cold tone and the seriousness with which he says this make me think that he suspects something.

"Don't play innocent," Logan argues.

Damien looks at him impassively. "I'm not. A simple test can show you that, in fact, this isn’t my handwriting."

"If you have the letters now, I'll take care of it myself," Ethan manifests.

Logan looks at the two men in frustration as Damien examines the letters.

"But these letters aren't from a stranger. They're from someone who knows you, Andrea," says Damien.

My hands begin to shake, but I clench them into fists and restrain myself.

"But who would do that? and why?"

"For one simple reason," Damien states, looking at me nonchalantly. "To get me and Logan out of the way. To kill two birds with one stone."

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

DAMIEN

"You have to have balls to accuse Damien of something like that," Andrea says to Logan.

Her gaze become furious, proving again that inside her there has been a fierce beast resting, ready to pounce at the slightest hint of a threat.

Her hands are clenched into fists and her hair is pulled back into a ponytail that has loose strands flying every which way. There’s a contrast between her anger and her appearance that makes her appear much younger than she really is.

But I know that the innocence inside her has been broken long ago. She was forced to break.

Logan looks at her blankly, and I wonder if he’s only pretending not to understand what's going on. "Don't give me that shit now," he snaps at her.

The way he talks to Andrea makes me want to break his jaw, but I restrain myself.

Instead, she jumps on the attack. "No, don't YOU give me that shit!" she bursts out. Her eyes are wide to hide the tears I know she's struggling to hold back as she slams her fists on the table. "You have no right, Logan, no right at all to pretend that you're the good guy here!"

"I was trying to protect you, damn it!" yells Logan.

"Then start by leaving me alone yourself!"
