That’s when I asked her outright, “How important is it to clear your family’s name and bring respect back to the company?”

“More than anything?” she responded.

“Trust us,” I said.

She dropped the subject, probably thinking that it wouldn’t go very far. She has a lot to learn about Satan’s Pride. She’ll learn.

“Fill us in,” I tell Orion now. He hesitates. He’s probably worried about how Francesca will react. “She’s got a right to know,” I urge.

“Nate put out a message about a new product launch. I put it into the dark web that we’re looking for investors with a hefty payout in six months. Reno jumped into the chat room or should I say Dante, acting on Reno’s behalf, and made it look real good. We got hundreds of callouts, but none of them from Jessop, until about a half hour ago from a guy calling himself British Bloke. While I kept the connection live with chatter, Dante traced the IP address. It pinged off three servers before landing in Moldova,” he says with a hint of smugness in his tone.

“We got him.” I slam a hand on the steering wheel, glancing to Francesca, who seems confused.

“I don’t understand,” she says.

“In order to hook a fish, we had to dangle the bait. That slippery fucker is on the hook,” Orion tells her.

“But there’s no danger of your brother losing any money, right?” she asks.

“That’s not a chance I would take,” Orion replies. “Don’t worry, Frankie, we got this under control.”

“What do you think his next move will be?” I ask.

“Hard to tell. Right now, we’re moving back and forth to up the ante. Reno is offering up a shit ton of cash for a product that doesn’t exist, and the higher the number climbs, the more interested Jessop seems. We’ll wait it out and see his next move,” Orion says.

“I’m riding out with Priest this afternoon on an easy skip. I’d appreciate it if Vi could hang out until I get back,” I say.

“Not a problem. But don’t blame me if Gabby finds her way into Francesca’s makeup drawer.” He groans. “That girl is going to cause me problems. I may have to buy a few more guns.”

“You forget that Gabby is half you and half Vi. You should be feeling sorry for the poor SOB she sets her sights on,” I tell him.

“Fuck! I hope you’re right,” he mumbles before hanging up.

Francesca remains quiet the rest of the ride home. She’ s processing the information, but she’s also imagining the worst-case scenarios. I park the car in her driveway, then turn to face her.

“Get it out,” I say.

“He’s dangerous.”

“We know.”

“I mean really dangerous.”

“Gotta give me more than that.”

“It’s all just rumors, but I’ve heard things.”

“Like what?” I press.

She huffs out a breath, running a hand through her hair. “This is all hearsay, but there was this guy, Dennison Hopper, a senior legal counsel for one of the companies that Jessop stole from, who came forward stating he had proof of Jessop’s corruption and was going to hand it over to the police the next day. The only reason I know about it is because they called my legal team so that we could provide a united front. We were thrilled, thinking Jessop was finally going to get what was coming to him. The next day, we were supposed to meet at the court to file a petition. He never showed. He was in the hospital with three broken ribs and a broken leg. He was nearly beaten to death.”

“You think it was Jessop.”

“No. He wouldn’t have the balls to do it himself. But he hired someone. What if they get to Nathan or Orion? Or their families? I couldn’t live with myself.”

“We’ve already got that covered. We’ve done our research, babe. We already know about Hopper and the five other guys he did that to. By the way, when we get them, they’ll want their shot at picking him clean too,” I say. “Jessop’s made a lot of enemies, and the so-called people he thinks are his friends are easily bought.”

“Promise me no one will get hurt.”
