"For me, yes. But Ivy, you have to do what's right for you. If you want to investigate your stolen eggs, then marry Sem, get your GC account, and start making inquiries. That's all perfectly legal. But," she trails off.

"What?"

"It comes at a cost. I'm sure you've picked up on the fact that humans aren't exactly equal in the galaxy, and if you start asking around and sharing your DNA looking for your eggs, you'll draw attention to yourself, and then Sem will really be put to the test on how well he can protect you."

"You mean more aliens will try to abduct me?"

"Possibly."

"Why?"

"That's the question of the century. The Dulu have sophisticated methods for choosing who they abduct from Earth. It’s not random. We've never been able to crack their system, but what you have is something valuable in the galaxy."

"But I'm just average."

"You've obviously got something."

"You'd just give up then?"

"No," Caroline says, rising. "I'd say a prayer for those eggs that they didn't survive and move on with my life. Of course, I'd never forget."

"I don't think I can do that…" I whisper.

Just then, the door opens, and Sem walks in. He's naked, and his hair looks wet from a shower. I don't know why my body is suddenly reacting to seeing him like this. Especially given what I was just told about Alliance men keeping human women as pets. What is wrong with me?

Sem

I see Commander Fox as I walk into the gymnasium. "Walk in the goddesses' light," I say, getting his attention.

"May they always guide me." He replies. "I'm surprised to see you here. I thought you'd be with Ivy committing more sins."

I get out my sword. "Spar?"

He gets out his and nods.

We talk as we spar.

"Ivy found out about her memories being erased the first time she was abducted. She wanted those memories back. So she woke up the doctor to get them."

"That's brave."

"Waking up the doctor or reliving those memories?"

"Both," replies the commander. "Was she satisfied that you did her no harm?"

"I don't know. I thought after she saw the memories, she'd realize even then she knew that I was her true other half. But she was still unsure and hasn’t agreed to marry me."

"What's she doing now?"

"Caroline came over. They’re talking."

"I'm sure Caroline can sort this out. She knows how to speak to human women and explain what's going on. Caroline’s never talked to a human woman on the cusp of marriage who didn’t end up a wife."

"I hope she can help. I just don't know what else to say to Ivy."

"I'll pray for you both. In the meantime, think of all the things she likes and do them."
