Then I watch Sem collect our things as our wedding guests file out respectfully. Sem looks at me. There are only two things that stand out. "I don't think I've ever been so embarrassed in my life."
"But you did it anyway, so it means even more."
"I don't think the drugs Caroline gave me worked."
"There's rumors they're only a placebo."
I watch him put on his pants. "A placebo? And you didn't say anything?"
"That would ruin their effect." He puts his shirt over his head and pulls out his long black hair and ranking jewelry through the top of the tunic and then buttons it up. "Don't be cross with Caroline. She probably didn't know."
I look at my bracelet marriage bracelet. "We're married, though, right? No more surprises, no more knives and blood, and I can go home if I want?"
He takes me in his arms. "You've forgotten we still have the punishment."

"Let's go back to my quarters," he says with his mind made up. "I want you to see yourself as an Alliance person, and frankly, I'm curious to see you as one now as well."
