"It's finished. We've been forgiven, and we're officially married," Sem says proudly.

"Am I really pregnant?" I ask, wondering if this was something he and the doctor made up.

"You are pregnant. That was as much of a surprise to me as to everyone else."

"Including me," I say.

Sem touches my abdomen. "It's proof of our fate. We are meant to be together."

At this point, I can't deny him this, so I touch our house key nestled in with all his silver ranking jewelry and say, "It's time to go to our real home and recover."

Sem takes my hand, and we walk out of the shrine together naked.

Ivy

Captain Ace of the Hio wants to meet Sem and me in one of the conference rooms on the base. I know exactly what this is about, and it's been months since Commander Fox asked him to search for my stolen eggs. It’s odd, though, as I had to fight to allow Sem to come to our meeting. In the end, the captain of the Hio agreed.

I can't sit still while I wait, so I stand and pace. Sem watches me silently. It's already a few minutes past when we were supposed to meet.

Fifteen minutes pass.

I wonder if we've gotten the time wrong. Just when I'm about to open up my messages and double-check, Captain Ace walks in.

He doesn't acknowledge his tardiness or thank the goddesses for anything. And If I didn't know he was an Alliance man, I could think he could be from anywhere in the galaxy with his short black hair and fashionable galactic clothing. Middling class Alliance people are nothing like the strict slaves and maximum class people who choose nothing about their appearances or lives.

"I'm Ivy Jefferies," I say unnecessarily.

"And I have what you were looking for," he says, taking a conference room seat and casually switching the room to private.

The lights flicker red and then return to normal.

"Then why the secrecy? Everyone on this station knows."

He runs a hand through his short hair. "Sit down, and I'll tell you."

I sit. "I'm ready to listen," I say after thirty seconds of silence.

"Your eggs were sold as viable to a wealthy couple on the Capital Planet."

"Okay."

Captain Ace brings out his IC, but it's not a standard Alliance issue but something that definitely screams, 'black market.' He shows me some documents. "These are copies of the bill of sale for three of your eggs that survived and were sold at Gala station."

"And did you get them back?"

He doesn't answer me straight away but shows me more documents. "These were very hard to come by and were filed in the Imperial section of the Capital City Hospital." The documents are of unsuccessful fertilization.”

"They tried to use my eggs to make embryos and failed?"

"Yes."

"You're sure?"
