I nodded. “Uh-huh, and a very nice one to boot.”

We could have gone back to my apartment and spent the night there—but I’d spent three months hiding the man in front of me and he deserved to be spoiled a little bit.

“Unless you’d rather us go back inside and talk to my dads?” I asked, gently running the tip of the card down the bridge of his nose. “I’m sure they’d love to talk your ear off about the upcoming season.”

Leith’s red-gold beard twitched into a mix of a grimace and a smile before he wrapped an arm around my back and lifted me clean off of my feet.

“Which way to the hotel?” he growled, his body hard against mine.

I pointed to one of the buildings that was lit up in the distance. “That way, I figured a hotel within walking distance was best.”

“Did I ever tell you that you’re the smartest woman I’ve ever met?” He began to carry me through the crowd, ignoring the stares from the passing tourists.

I just grinned and wrapped my arms around his neck. “No, but I wouldn’t be opposed to you doing it more.”

He finally put me down and took my hand in his. This time, it was his turn to pull me in the direction of the hotel. “I’m going to be telling you a lot of things by the end of tonight, mo ròs, count on it.”

Chapter twenty-nine

“How did you manage all of this?” I asked as we stepped into the hotel suite, my mouth agape as I took it all in.

I’d had an inkling when the elevator kept going up and up that I was about to be surprised by the place Ciara had arranged for us to stay, but I had no idea it would be the penthouse.

The space opened up in front of us, floor to ceiling glass windows overlooking the waterfront which sparkled in the darkness. It had a kitchen and an expensive looking living area complete with a dark leather couch situated around a massive television.

Off to one side was an open doorway that led into an equally large bedroom and on the other side the door opened to what looked like a bathroom.

Ciara dropped her little purse on the coffee table and turned to me with a mischievous smile, her brown eyes sparkling.

“I called in a favor with Colt,” she admitted with a shrug. “He owed me one after moving me in across from you three.”

Crossing the room, I grabbed her hips and drew her to me. She’d made my heart sing tonight by proudly declaring to the world that I was hers. Ciara wasn’t hiding me anymore and it soothed the past hurts that I still nursed. “Didn’t that turn out well enough in the end, though?”

Ciara’s full lips tilted up even more. “It did, but that doesn’t mean I won’t take full advantage to get us a night in this place.”

She then stood on her tiptoes so that her lips were near my ear, her hand sliding down my chest in a way that made me want to throw her down onto the fancy tiled floor and have my way with her. “And if you think the living room is nice, just wait until you see the bathtub.”

With that, Ciara pushed away from me with a laugh and reached up to pull the fancy clip out of her hair, fluffing her curls before heading for the bathroom.

I must have looked completely dumbstruck because she paused before stepping through the door and shot me a look over her shoulder, her eyes sultry with need.

“Are you coming?” she asked before stepping through the door and letting it fall shut behind her.

Trying to pick my jaw up off of the floor, I shucked my suit jacket and made for my shoes when my phone began to buzz in my pocket. Pulling it out, I saw Artie’s grinning face staring back at me.

Glancing between the bathroom where the sound of the shower and bathtub turning on filled my ears and my phone, I groaned and answered it.

“Artie, you’re really fucking with me right now,” I told him, tucking my phone into the crook of my neck as I sat on the couch and untied my shoes.

There was a huff of a laugh before the omega spoke. “I’m sorry, I just wanted to check in on you. Enzo and I felt something odd coming down the bond but everything seems okay now.”

That oddness was probably Ciara. I’d felt it too when that arse had gotten in her face. A shock of fear so potent had ricocheted down the bond that I’d nearly thrown a fist at the man.

But as quickly as it came, it was gone and Ciara was telling him off.

I knew Ciara had past hurts that hadn’t quite gone away yet—but I also knew pushing her to talk about them when she wasn’t ready was a one-way ticket to getting her to shut down.

“She’s fine,” I told him, antsy to get off the phone and enjoy my night with the beautiful woman in the shower. “She just had a run-in with a past, ah, ex I supposed?”
