“Wait. What?”

“I can sense goodness in you,” Savannah said. “I think you’ll make an excellent student. You’re a natural sponge. Would you like to learn from me?”

“A thousand times yes.”

Savannah smiled. “Excellent. My hours are nine to five, six days a week. I also, on occasion, do house calls. Is that doable for you?”

Brinnah looked up at Everett. When he gave a slight nod, she bounced on her feet. “Yes. Thank you so much!”

“Go on, get a good night’s rest and I’ll see you tomorrow.”

As Brinnah left, she practically skipped out the door, waving goodbye.

“I can’t believe I’m going to learn from Savannah!” she said happily.

“Congrats, baby,” Everett said, smiling. “While you’re learning, I don’t want you to worry about money. This is your future and I know you’ll be an excellent herbologist one day.”

They ran through the night, each taking a turn to lead. The bright shine of the moon played peek-a-boo through the trees, illuminating their way. Happiness sang through her body. Her wolf was excited to be next to his. At this point, Brinnah didn’t even question it. In her heart, she knew Everett was her moon-fated mate, not the cruel man she left behind. They came to the pond and Everett charged ahead, throwing himself off the bank into the water. A moment later, his human head surfaced and he flung his hair around, sending droplets flying in all directions. Brinnah sat on her haunches and tilted her head.

“Come, mate,” Everett said, smiling. “Join me for a swim.”

Brinnah thought for a moment, and then asked her wolf for their skin back. The wolf allowed it, and a moment later she sat on the bank, watching him.

“Join me,” he said.

She smiled and rose, not caring about her nudity, and made her way into the pond. Mud squished between her toes. Some underwater plant life brushed against her leg. She really hoped there weren’t any water snakes joining them for a nighttime swim.

As soon as she was close, Everett took hold of her hand and tugged her into his body. She stared into his eyes, getting lost in their swirling depths.

“I know you don’t feel it, but I do,” he said softly. “You are the woman made for me, just as I am the man made for you. Please let me show you my devotion.”

When she nodded, he groaned and pulled her close, covering her mouth with his. She felt him everywhere and knew he was right. She was his and he was hers. The kiss transformed, going from something quite chaste to scorching hot. Everett wrapped his arms around her, his hard cock pressing against her stomach. It made her nervous because this wasn’t something she’d ever done before. Of course, she knew the basics. She’s seen animals copulate, and the mated females always talked about getting mounted. It sounded horrible, although the females seemed to like it.

Everett lifted her and carried her to the bank, laying her down in the field of clover he’d rolled in the day before. He brushed hair off her forehead.

“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered, then leaned down to kiss her. The whole setting was romantic, and for her first time, she couldn’t imagine anywhere else.

He cupped her breasts, sucking gently on one while pinching the other. Massaging the globes and burying his face between them. She moaned as he nipped and licked all the way down, not stopping until he laid sprawled between her legs. Embarrassment forced her to try to hide herself, but he only pushed her thighs open wider.

“You’re breathtaking,” Everett murmured as his fingers slid through the curls that protected her most intimate part.

Brinnah’s hips bucked as his finger ran along the slit, adding a slight pressure to her clit. She could hardly believe she was naked, letting him look at her. Touch her. Yet, she craved him with every fiber of her being.

“Hey, you okay?” he asked.

She looked down at him. “My anxiety is spiking.”

He moved back up to look in her eyes. “We don’t have to do anything. We can stop.”

“But that’s not what you want.”

“Brinnah, I don’t want anything unless you want it as well. I would never force you into something that makes you uncomfortable. If you want to leave, just say the word.”

She stared deeply into his eyes. Even with the muted moonlight, she saw sincerity gazing back at her. It made her relax and come to the realization that she wanted this. Wanted him. She wanted to belong to him, and he to her, so she pushed down the little voice that told her she wasn’t being fair to him because Vadin still hung in the back of her mind, like an evil specter.

“I want you,” she murmured. “I want you in any way I can have you.”
