“I thought you’d arrive together,” she says coldly.

I place my bag on my desk and shrug out of my jacket, trying to work out what to say. “I’m really sorry about the other day,” I begin.

“Don’t apologise. I’ve heard all about you, Raven. I know you like to steal other women’s men. But let me tell you something, if I’m being forced to marry this man, I’m having him to myself. I know a lot of men like Vinn have other women, but that is not how my marriage will be. So, keep your hands to yourself or I will make sure he fires you.”

I’m pretty sure she’s already tried that, and he’s refused. There’s no way he’d let her tell him what to do. “We’re not a thing anymore,” I say, equally as cold. “I started sleeping with Vinn before you came on the scene. So technically, I didn’t do anything wrong. But the second I knew you were in London, I pushed him away. What you walked in on the other day was a moment of weakness. It won’t happen again. I’ve met someone.”

She narrows her eyes. “Then we’re both clear.”

“Crystal.”

The lift doors open, and Vinn steps out looking fresh. His eyes dart between us before he leans in to press a kiss to Sofia’s head. “Good morning. What a lovely surprise.”

“I’m sure,” she says sarcastically. “We need to talk. I’m postponing the wedding,” she adds, breezing into his office. He mutters something in Italian, then follows her, slamming the office door. I grab my earbuds and connect them to my playlist. I don’t wanna hear the argument I know is about to follow.

It’s a full twenty minutes before Sofia marches out of the office uttering words in Italian, which I’m sure aren’t nice. Vinn watches her leave. “We’re pushing the date back,” he says to me, and I try to hide my surprise. “Two months.”

“Okay.”

“Sofia will email you a list of contacts and the new date. Call them and make the changes.” I nod, and he goes back into his office.

At lunchtime, Leia turns up. She used to pop in to see Vinn a lot, but since having Grace, she hasn’t been. She places a paper bag on my desk. “Vinn’s in a meeting,” I explain.

“I came to see you,” she says, and I frown. “Don’t look so confused,” she mutters. “Chains told me you’re having a shit time, so I offered to come check on you.”

“Oh.”

“I got us lunch,” she adds, opening the bag. “You’re an ol’ lady now, and we take care of each other.”

“It’s just weird, that’s all. You don’t like me.”

She grins. “I do.”

“Bullshit,” I say, smirking.

“Maybe it’s taken me a while to adjust to you being in Chains’ life, but I’m dealing with it. It’s hard when a stunning woman turns up with the man you love. What did you expect?”

“You know, I pushed him to get back with you,” I point out. “We’re just friends.”

“Like with you and Vinn?” she asks.

I shake my head. “No, not like me and Vinn at all. I fell in love with him.”

“Obviously, he’s fit as fuck.” She pulls out a sandwich and hands it to me. “But off limits.”

“All the good ones are.”

“Mac isn’t.”

“Mac’s helping me out. I don’t know exactly why, but . . .” I trail off, shrugging.

“Maybe he’s just a nice guy.”

I nod. “I’m not used to meeting them.”

“Chains said Mac’s stopping you from doing club work?”

“Yeah. Apparently, women don’t do club work.”
