“Do you like him, Raven? You can be honest.”

I shrug. “He’s easy to talk to and kind, and he looks out for me. He’s single, which is great because let’s face it, my track record isn’t good. But he’s a friend, and I think he likes it that way. I haven’t known him long, and for once, I’d like to just see how things go. I always rush in. I’m still not over Vinn, not really. And now, I feel like a dick for misreading the signals . . . again.”

“Hey, you and Vinn weren’t serious. It’s okay to look at other guys.”

“I just found Mac in bed with Kiera. He’s not interested in me. I’m an idiot. I cling onto any fucking man who pays me a little bit of attention.”

“You’ve had a tough life. There’s other shit behind why you’re the way you are.”

I bury my face in my hands and groan aloud. “I’m such a desperate loser. He came in here, and I told him the meal was for Brick. Now, he thinks I’m after Brick.”

Eva laughs. “Christ, Brick will shit his pants. He’s terrified of you.”

I grin. “Is he?”

She nods. “He’s scared of strong women.”

I roll my eyes. “I’m hardly strong.”

She grabs my hand. “Raven, you are. Own it. And, if you like Mac, even just a little, fight for him.”

“I don’t think he’s ready. He’s been hurt and he refuses to talk about it. Maybe it’s not the right time.”

“Hunny, if he’s moved on to club girls, he’s ready. He’ll open up, just be patient.”

MAC

“Fuck, baby, if you don’t stop that, I’m gonna have to take you back upstairs,” I hiss into Kiera’s ear. She giggles and grinds harder against me. I grip her hair and pull her face down to kiss me. A slap lands on the back of my head, and I release her, looking back over my shoulder to see Frankie glowering at me.

“Where’s Raven?” she demands.

“Last time I checked, in her room. Why?” I snap, rubbing my head.

“Cos that’s where you should be, dumbass.”

“Why would I be in Raven’s room?” I grip Kiera’s hips to stop her rubbing against my painfully hard erection.

“Eating the dinner she prepared for you the second she got in from work. She is your ol’ lady, remember?”

“I thought that was for . . .” Her words sink in, and I trail off. Raven cooked for me. Of course, she did. “Fuck.”

“I wouldn’t worry. I spoke with her, and she said she’s fine about us,” Kiera tells Frankie.

“I don’t care what her lips are saying, this is technically her man, and no one is standing in the way of it, so get your arse off his cock and go find someone else to fuck.” Kiera huffs, getting up and stomping away. No one argues with Frankie. “And you, get back up those stairs and have dinner,” she tells me.

I take the stairs two at a time, willing my hard-on to disappear. I tap lightly on Raven’s door. She doesn’t answer, but I hear her laughing, so I go inside. She’s sitting with Eva at the table outside, and they’re drinking wine and laughing hard. I watch her for a few minutes before Eva spots me and smiles. Placing her glass on the table, she gets up. “That’s my cue to leave.”

Raven looks back at me, and I notice she’s lit the candle on the table. It flickers, illuminating her beautiful face. “Someone told me about dinner,” I say, and her blush returns. “You should have told me.”

“It was nothing. Just a dinner to say thank you for being so nice. It wasn’t important. Not as important as you and Kiera so—”

“Raven, Kiera is a club girl, she doesn’t mean anything. I’d have ditched her to spend the evening with you.”

“I know, but I don’t wanna be that girl who cockblocks so . . .”

I take a seat opposite her and hold up the now empty bottle. “You got thirsty?”

She shrugs. “Umm, nothing beats a liquid diet. Where is Kiera?”
