The bride and groom enter the room and people begin clapping. I have an idea that I relay to Ace, so he can slip off and put it into action. It’s crazy and probably won't work, but it’s got to be worth a shot.

Vinn and Sofia stand at the entrance of the dining hall, greeting each and every one of us as we pass them. I stand behind Raven and watch her glance over the seating plan and frown. She must have known she wasn’t sitting with us. “Well, look at that,” I say in her ear, noticing the way she shivers at my voice. “It’s my lucky night.”

Anna sits on the other side of Raven, which gives her the perfect opportunity to ignore me and speak to her. She tells her about the wonderful apartment she’s staying in. She’s talking extra loudly so I can hear every detail, which only pisses me off. “Are you gonna ignore me all night?” I eventually ask.

“Yes, that’s the plan.”

“I know you, Raven, and I know you miss the club. You miss me.”

She scoffs. “You really think you’re something.”

“And I missed you . . . so fucking much. Seeing you today, and not being able to touch you, is killing me.”

“Well, lucky for you, I’ve wished you dead at least three times in the last ten minutes so—”

“Lies.”

“You’re good at those.”

“Take a test.”

“Fuck you.”

I take the package from my inside pocket. “Raven, you’re pregnant. Take a test.”

“Suddenly you’re a doctor?”

“Your tits are bigger. You’ve lost weight from not eating, but they’re bigger. And you have a bump, a small one, but it’s there. I know every inch of your body and I’m telling you, you’re pregnant.”

“Jesus, you’re full of compliments. I’m due on my period, actually, which explains it.”

“If you’re so sure you’re not, take a test.”

Angry, she turns to face me, her eyes are blazing. “Okay, Mac. What do you think will happen if I find out I’m pregnant?”

I swallow hard. I know by her tone that whatever I say will be the wrong answer. “You’ll forgive me, say you missed me, move back into the club, and we’ll live happily ever after?”

“No.” She arches her brow. “I’ll book an appointment at the nearest clinic and sort the problem out.”

“You don’t mean that. You’re hurting.”

“You think I’d have a kid with you?”

“I’ve made mistakes, Raven. I never said I was an angel. But I know I want this. I want you. I love you.” She stares wide-eyed. “I love you,” I repeat. “I’m gonna tell you every day until you forgive me and say it back. And even if you’re not pregnant now, you will be soon because you’re mine, Raven, and we’re gonna spend forever together. I love you.”

“I need the bathroom,” she mutters, rushing off.

RAVEN

When I return, Mac is gone, and I breathe a sigh of relief. How dare he ruin today for me with his incessant nagging. I rub my hand over my stomach, wondering if I look fat. It’s impossible, I’ve hardly eaten a thing and I’ve been sick loads. Not because of pregnancy but from heartbreak. The food is being served, so I take my place and chat with Anna while waiters work around us. Minutes later, Mac returns looking smug. “I love you,” he says, sitting down. I ignore him and continue talking with Anna.

“Did he just say what I think he said?” Anna whispers. I nod, and she grins. “Is he staying in London?”

“He said he is.”

“Isn’t that a good thing?”

“No.”
