“Everything okay?” I ask.
I listen to her taking her clothes off.
I smile.
“I don’t know. There are… problems… and it kind of involves you.”
That’s when I open the shower curtain and poke my head out. “Involves me? What did I do now?”
Vera reaches back and unclasps her dark pink bra.

“Someone saw them talking and walking next to each other,” Vera says. “Harmless stuff. I mean, you know how college gossip is…”
“So let me get this straight,” I say. “Someone sees Jax and Mila. They call Violet. Violet calls you. And now you’re telling me.”
