Honestly, his sexy British accent was just one more thing that made the man almost irresistible.

After closing the dishwasher and turning it on, I rotated until I was face-to-face with Dylan.

I wasn’t sure where it came from, but there it was, that raw, tormented look in his gorgeous eyes that made my heart ache for him. It appeared and disappeared out of the blue, and regardless of everything he’d done in the past, it got to me.

Dammit!I couldn’t help myself.

“Are you okay?” I asked quietly.

He was visibly startled like he’d needed to give himself a shake to come out of some deep thoughts.

He nodded. “I’m good. I was just wondering why you’re still so damn nice to me after all the things I’ve done in the past. My own family doesn’t even want to talk to me.”

My heart started to race, and my fingers twitched with the desire to smooth my palm over his tight, slightly scruffy jawline.

I had to force myself not to touch him as I said, “Almost everyone deserves a second chance, Dylan. Just don’t screw this one up. You did hurt my best friend, so another chance isn’t in the cards for the two of us, even though she’s ecstatically happy now. I can be your friend or your worst enemy. Your choice.”

My voice was firm, but I held my breath as I waited for his reply.

I was surprised by how much I wanted Dylan to gain my trust, and vice versa.

His full, delicious lips turned up just a little at the corners as he drawled, “It seems I have little choice after the way you kicked my ass on the tennis court earlier. You’re pretty fearsome, regardless of your slight stature, so I wouldn’t dare disappoint you.”

I released my breath. I knew that was the biggest bone Dylan was going to toss me for now, but it was enough.

I smiled at him as I said breathlessly, “Good choice.”
