CHAPTER 16

Kylie

“God,” I said with a moan of appreciation. “This is the most decadent hot tub I’ve even seen. It’s more like a small pool.”

I leaned back in the comfortable seat as the powerful, plentiful jets soothed away all of my tension.

The luxurious spa had all kinds of LED light selections, but we’d settled on a simple, muted, white light that was more relaxing than the crazy colors.

Before Dylan had taken the towels out to the trash in the garage, he’d told me to put on my swimsuit and meet him downstairs.

I hadn’t been sure what to expect, but it certainly hadn’t been the enormous sunken hot tub just off the outdoor patio. I hadn’t really noticed it because it had an automatic cover that matched the outdoor pavers.

I’d almost squealed with delight as Dylan had activated the switch that exposed the enormous, jetted tub, and pulled me down the steps.

“This is so much better than the possible Jaws scenario,” I told him with a sigh.

“Sorry? What did you say?” he asked, sounding puzzled.

I stretched my arms out, knowing I could actually swim in this particular hot tub, but I was too lazy to bother.

“I thought you might be suggesting a midnight swim in the ocean,” I explained. “Don’t get me wrong, I would have been game, but it would have reminded me of that scene in the original Jaws movie where the first female victim takes a late-night swim alone and gets attacked by the monster great white shark. Have you seen it? It’s an older, seventies movie.”

“I think we need a bigger boat,” Dylan said, quoting the iconic line from the movie in an American accent.

I grinned at him as he relaxed in another seat only about a foot or so away. “Exactly.”

“Did you really think I was going to drag you to your death?” he asked in an amused voice.

“Of course not, but I’ve never done a late-night swim, especially after seeing that movie.”

Dylan chuckled. “I saw it a long time ago. My younger brother, Leo, is a wildlife biologist, and he likes to poke fun at all of the horror and thriller movies with outrageous depictions of giant or killer animals. Honestly, I think he secretly enjoys them.”

My chest ached as I thought about how normal Dylan’s family life had been before the last two years. From what he’d said about his brothers, he’d had a really close relationship with both Damian and Leo.

Obviously, they’d spent a lot of time together doing the normal sibling stuff.

“Nicole, Macy, and I used to get together for movie nights all the time. It’s going to be so strange not to have Nic close by anymore,” I said in a whimsical voice.

“I think she’ll come across the pond often enough,” Dylan mused. “She’ll have a private jet at her disposal whenever she needs it.”

“I know,” I agreed. “And I’m glad she found Damian. I just wish she wasn’t going to be so far away. She hasn’t been back in Newport Beach for that long, but I got so used to seeing her every day.”

“It won’t be long before you, Macy, and Nicole are spending some time together,” Dylan pointed out.

“I know. I’m really excited. I’ve always wanted to go to England. There’s so much I want to see in London.”

“Where are you planning on staying?” Dylan asked in a curious tone.

“With Nic and Damian in his high-tech mansion,” I said jokingly. “His home sounds extraordinary.”

“I’m sure it is,” Dylan agreed. “I’m familiar with the plans for his place.”

I tilted my head and studied him. “You mentioned that you had a flat, better known as a condo or apartment to Americans. How long has it been since you’ve been there?”

“I sold it after I went back to pack up Charlotte’s things to send to her parents.”

“So you’re homeless?” I teased.
