CHAPTER 29

Kylie

I stood behind Dylan as we exited the car, giving him time to greet his family.

It was a pivotal moment for him and an important one since it was the first time he’d be face-to-face with them since he’d started treatment and decided to take back his life.

Damian and Dylan were dressed in nearly identical tuxedos, and the way they looked like almost mirror images of each other was even more striking when the two of them were standing side by side.

Yeah, I could see the differences, too, but they were subtle, and as the two men who looked so much alike faced each other, neither one of them looking like they knew quite what to say, my heart clenched.

I saw the struggle on Dylan’s face, the desire to say a million things that he wasn’t sure how to get out of his mouth.

It was finally Damian who reached out, wrapped his arms around his twin, and pulled his younger brother close.

I saw Dylan’s eyes close as he hugged Damian back with just as much enthusiasm.

This family had waited way too long for this reunion, for Dylan to come back home again where he belonged.

After so much pain for all of them, watching Dylan being so readily accepted back into the family he loved so much was heart-wrenchingly sweet for me.

I assumed the blond guy who gave Dylan the same welcome was Leo, Dylan’s younger brother. Some of his features were similar, but the stark differences in coloring between him, his mother, and his twin brothers made him stand out.

Dylan swept his petite mother into a long embrace, holding the elegant gray-haired woman like she was precious to him, which I knew she was.

I continue to watch as he finally stood in front of Nicole, not shying away from her as he said, “I owe you a very big apology.”

Nicole, dressed elegantly in a striking red gown, shook her head. “I don’t want your apology. It’s not necessary. You’re going to be my brother-in-law. Just give me a damn hug.”

Dylan grinned. “I’d like that just as long as your soon-to-be-husband doesn’t deck me if I do.”

“Make it short,” Damian grumbled good-naturedly.

Like the affectionate, compassionate woman she’d always been, Nicole threw her arms around Dylan’s neck and hugged him like the brother she’d never had. “I’m so glad you’re home,” she told him.

“Me, too,” he said as he hugged her back.

As he released Nicole, he took my hand and tugged me forward. I hugged Damian and Nicole before Dylan said, “Mum. Leo. This is Kylie Hart.”

Leo stepped forward immediately with a mischievous grin. “I’m definitely getting a hug. Nicole didn’t mention that her maid of honor was just as ravishingly beautiful as she was.”

His smile reached all the way to his gorgeous blue eyes, and I instantly knew exactly why Nicole adored Leo.

“Get on with it, Leo,” Damian grumbled. “No need to torture Dylan, too.”

I wasn’t quite sure what Damian meant, but the handsome blond scooped me up into his arms and gave me a warm hug.

“My turn,” Isabella Lancaster said firmly once Leo had let me go.

As she put her arms around me, Isabella whispered, “Thank you for caring about my son and for everything you’ve done to help him.”

“It wasn’t me,” I said in a hushed voice. “It was all him. You raised a very strong-willed, incredible son, Your Grace.”

“None of that formal stuff in this family, Kylie,” Dylan’s mom insisted. “Call me Bella.”

“I’m stealing my best friend away for a little while,” Nicole said as she stepped forward and took my arm. “I have some people I want her to meet.”

Isabella beamed and then winked at Nicole. “Take your time, dear. You two need to catch up.”
