But, she should have known it wouldn’t be that easy.

“I’ll make sure she doesn’t need help.”

Jim nods. “Good man.” And then he’s turning to Levi, engaging him in conversation while I weave my way through the house.

Brielle

My heart is racing so fast I’m sure it’s going to jump out of my chest.

What is he thinking? If Dad found out what happened between us…there would be hell to pay. Doesn’t Conrad care about that?

I lean against the wall outside the kitchen, trying to catch my breath and erase the effect that these men have on me.

“Brielle…” Conrad appears around the corner.

“Conrad,” I snap, irritation lacing my voice, “what part of ‘I need a moment’ didn’t you understand?”

He closes the distance between us with a leisurely, confident stride, a half smile playing on his lips. “Every part, apparently.” His voice is smooth, a melody that somehow soothes even as it provokes.

“Stop it. This—us—it was a mistake. It never should have happened, and Dad can’t find out!” I press my back against the cool wall, wishing it could absorb the chaos he’s stirring inside me.

“You don’t really think that,” he says. “You might not want Daddy to think you’re not the good little girl he knows, but you loved having my hands all over your body, loved Grayson’s lips against you. It wasn’t a mistake. You just don’t want to admit that you want more.”

No, he’s not right…

His finger tilts my chin up, forcing me to meet his gaze—a tempest of blue, stormy and deep. His thumb brushes against my lower lip, and for a moment I’m transported back to the cabin of the plane, the taste of him, the press of his body.

“Tell me you felt nothing,” he challenges, his voice a whisper that seems to echo in the silence of the hallway.

My throat tightens, words lodging there like thorns. And I try, I really do try, but he’s not going to make a liar out of me. “I can’t,” I admit, the confession slipping out. “Is that what you wanted to hear?”

“That’s exactly what I wanted to hear.”

“Conrad—” My protest dies on my lips as he leans in, his breath warm against my ear.

“Let’s not pretend,” he says, sending shivers down my spine. “Because when you do, it makes me want to be reckless.”

Why does a part of me want to see the reckless side of him?

Stick to your guns.

“Please, we can’t do this again.” My voice is barely a whisper, a mix of desire and despair. “My dad…if he ever found out…”

“He won’t,” Conrad assures me, his hand finding its way to my hair, fingers gently sifting through the strands. “It’ll be our secret, just like before.”

“Promise me,” I breathe out, every cell in my body vibrating with the nearness of him.

“Okay,” Conrad says, the word hanging between us like a promise drenched in sin. “I won’t tell Jim.”

“And no more taunting me.”

“No more,” he agrees. “But, Brielle…” His voice dips lower, a conspiratorial whisper that sends a shiver down my spine. “I want another night with you.”

Confusion clouds my thoughts, and the air feels thick, almost tangible in its intensity. “Another night? Why?” My question sounds feeble even to my own ears, drowned out by the deafening rush of blood in my veins.

“Because…” He steps closer, his breath hot against my cheek. “One time wasn’t enough with you.”

My heart lurches. “You seem like you have plenty of women willing to jump into bed with you.”
