“They may be loyal to their own King but with his mind lost, they are also loyal to another, which means they have a responsibility as acting Enforcer,” I told him, feeling assured by this knowledge.

“So yeah, okay, when you put it like that,” Van replied before he was on the phone once more. Which meant that in no time at all we were on our way to Hidden Lake Territorial Park, along the Ingraham Trail. As suspected, Torn’s people met us a little away from the cave site, one not known to mortals for obvious reasons.

We exchanged pleasantries as I shook hands with Torn’s known second in command, and who was now essentially running the show. She looked native to the culture, as her vessel was that of an Inuit. She was short, being no more than five foot tall and quite stocky in her build. Her beautiful Asian facial features held a hint of mischief about her, and her long black hair was worn in the typical style. It was spilt down the center and was plaited each side, with her cheeks looking rosy from the chill in the evening air. Her dark eyes scanned the length of me in my tactical gear, before looking around to find my men all dressed the same.

As for her own people, they all looked dressed for the cold weather and nothing else, as they could have come ready for a night drinking in a tavern rather than about to go into battle. But in truth, as long as they could fucking fight, then I didn’t care. The plan was simple, they create a distraction, drawing out Hector’s men from the cave whilst Van and I crept inside unnoticed.

After that, it was really anyone’s guess as to what would happen next. My only hope was to get to Evelyn and rescue her above all else. Because I couldn’t give a fuck if it was selfish or not, I wanted my Siren back and if the whole world burned around us, then so be it, I would just find a way to take her back to my own Realm of Greed.

Which meant I was soon ready to give the word, having some of Torn’s men go in first to draw them out. Thankfully, this part of the plan went off without a hitch, as pretty soon, Hector’s men were running into an ambush. The rocky terrain that led to the Cave’s hidden entrance was a perfect place for Torn’s men to hide behind before springing their trap and surrounding them. Yet despite being faced with this obvious defeat, they fought like Demons just as we all expected them to.

So as chaos ensued, something that Torn’s men looked to revel in, it offered us the perfect distraction to sneak inside, making our way through the twisted cave system. The few guards we encountered were easily dispatched, as once more I called forth my favorite weapon. The Zweihänder made short work of relieving them of their heads, and Vander only needed to touch them to rip their souls right from their vessels.

Which meant, before long, we were right where we needed to be, as the last jagged tunnel opened up into a huge cavern big enough to hold a small army. One I was relieved to see was not yet filled with Demonic life as the portal was still closed… for now.

Although Hector was now stepping up to the singular piece of the rock formation, one that was arched and out of place from the rest of the cave’s interior walls. It was bigger than the doors to my horde and must have been at least three stories high. The Sumerian symbols were etched in a boarder around the edge, just waiting to be used for the first time in over a thousand years. Its ancient lure pulsated in the air as if it could sense the scepter.

Even the Mayans of Central America knew of these gateways, for it was why they built temples over caves or even went so far as to build them to look like them. Because they knew that caves were the entrance to the underworld. It was a version of Hell I was going to try and prevent invading the Moral Realm. But first, my eyes scanned the space looking for my Siren, finding her being held further away from the portal by the big bastard that had beaten on my second.

She was also holding the scepter, as Van’s threat of a hex was obviously still one that stuck, and clearly, Hector wasn’t taking any chances.

“We need to get closer,” I told Van from behind the rocks we were crouched behind, making him nod. So, we got as close as we could until I could finally catch Evie’s eyes, something that unfortunately alerted the big bastard to us as well. However, she reacted quickly, now using the scepter as a weapon, bringing it up and hitting her captor in the face. However, before she could get far, he was on her, and I was too far away to get to her first.

“EVIE!” I shouted, but it was too late and as if knowing her fate, she was free enough to throw the scepter toward us.

“RYKER, RUN!” she screamed, trying to save me and the fate of her world by having me leave her.

Something I could never do.

So, I picked up the scepter and told her,

“I am not going anywhere, my Siren.” At this she looked pained as she stopped struggling against the soon to be dead Demon that had hold of her. It was as if the realization of our situation made the fight go right out of her.

“Then… Archízei,” she said sadly, making me narrow my eyes as if trying to understand where I had heard that being said before.

“Annika.” I said the name without context, making Van question,

“What has she got to do with…”

“Archízei, that was what she said to me before I left the realm,” I told him, knowing he would understand this more than most considering his extensive knowledge in languages.

“It begins,” he repeated, translating the word from Greek.

“So, it does,” Hector replied, now coming up behind my Siren as he had the time to take in the situation for himself since hearing me calling her name.

“Let her go, Hector!” I demanded, allowing my Demon to edge each word with murderous intent.

“Um, I think not, for we seem to be at an impasse. For you have something I want, and I know I have what you want…” he said, pausing so as he could grab Evie to him, and quickly holding a blade to her throat.

“…So, tell me, just what is she worth to you, Ryker?” At this I was forced to witness as his blade pressed in hard enough to draw blood, making me fucking panic when she screamed.

“Alright! Alright! Fuck, just let her go and I will give you the scepter,” I told him, making him fucking tut at me like I was some unruly child.

“Oh, but I think not. You see, this good little bitch here is going to open the portal and live to tell the tale.”

“You won’t kill her!” I stated, knowing that if he was to get what he wanted, then he couldn’t. However, he called my bluff, as he told me with a sick fucking grin,

“No, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t start cutting pieces off her fuckable body… tell me, Ryker, what are your favorites…? These, perhaps?” he said, now moving the blade from her neck and to under her breasts, making her inhale sharply.
