“No Ma’am, she hasn’t touched her food.”

The woman rose from the chair and moved into the living room with the servant on her heels. The apartment was just a temporary lay over. In a few days they would move to their permanent hideout, some where no one would even think of finding the DeLuca woman.

They passed two doors in a long passage and when she came to the third door, she beckoned to the servant to open it. Using his white gloved hand, he retrieved a key from the jacket of his impeccable dark suit, gently pushed it into the lock and turned. As he heard the soft click, he pushed.

The woman entered the room and looked around, not immediately seeing anyone. A movement behind her almost caught her off guard, but with the many years of training with her father’s assassins, she was quick and lithe. She curved her elbow and struck it backwards, feeling the impact of someone’s face meeting the sharp edge of her elbow joint.

“Argh!” Melody growled, coming back with a double round house kick.

The woman dodged the first one, but the second one connected with her chin. This was a common trick, using the first kick as a feign and striking with a quick second. The servant disappeared and returned with three guards.

“Touché,” the woman complimented. “But it’s no use Melody, even if you take me down you will never walk out of here alive.”

“My husband and son …,” Melody’s voice trailed off as a sob escaped her. “My husband and son will find you and when they do, you will suffer.”

“Ha-ha-ha,” the woman’s laugh resounded through the room. “Your husband is a vegetable and your older son is being buried today. But, I’m curious as to what the younger one is made of.”

“What do you mean my husband is a vegetable?”

“He’s in a coma, similar to thirty years ago.”

Melody lunged after her, but the guards held her back. “You bitch!” Melody shrieked and spat at her. “You will pay for this. I will cut your tongue out and feed it to my dogs.”

The woman calmly wiped spittle from her cheek. “I can see why my father’s obsessed with you. You’re a spitfire, aren’t you?”

“Who the fuck is your father?” Melody asked. “Who the hell are you?”

“I’m Eunice, and you’ll meet my father soon enough. He’s been obsessed with you since the moment he laid eyes on you. Now eat to gain your strength. You’re gonna need it.”

While Melody spat expletives at her, Eunice exited the room and instructed the guards to stay with her.

“This is just the beginning,” she chuckled as she returned to the living room. “This is just the beginning.”
