Chapter 14

It took a minute to get the tablet to power on, having to change the battery to a spear that was inside the safe. While he awaited the booting up of the device, he called for Frankie and his co-captains, as well as Uncle Robert who insisted that since he never went on the first mission, he should definitely be involved in this one. The man was nearly eighty years old, and Neo didn’t want to be responsible for anything untoward happening to him.

As he browsed through the apps, Neo couldn’t help but notice there were password protected files with the names of some powerful people. Curious about what these filed contained, he tried to open them but was unsuccessful with the passwords. Getting into the tablet was a breeze as the password was his wedding date. Almost every password Adriano used had something to do with Melody. Breaking into the safe in the office, the one in his bedroom, his social networks … easy as pie.

Realizing he was wasting time on these files he concentrated on the app that would trace his mother. This app wasn’t one that he was familiar with and seemed to be a custom-made GPS system called DeLuca Family GPS. If he recalled his technology training, the device in the ring was not a microchip, but a micro-tracking device with its own power source. That meant, that tiny little thing had a battery in it that would enable it to be linked to the tablet.

“This is some powerful stuff Dad,” he mumbled.

From where he sat, Neo was able to see that each micro-tracker worked within a two-hundred-mile radius. Adriano must have had some extensive work done to create these devices and the app. The app contained the names of people who were fitted with these trackers, including himself, his brother and some of the crew.

He took a moment thing of what his personal tracker could be installed in? What did he carry everywhere with him? He concluded that his tracker was either in his phone or his car. He’d have to figure that out another time.

The fine print at the bottom of the app screen stated that this was in the Beta testing phase from two years ago. Anyway, Neo opened the tab marked My Wife. A map of Sicily popped up, but it took a few seconds for anything legible to register. After perusing the map for a minute, Neo noticed that there was a small power tab in the corner. He touched that and immediately the roadways, highway, and major landmarks showed up.

It took about three minutes for a blue dot to start blinking on the screen. The dot was stationary somewhere on the coast of Aci Castello. He watched it for a minute, until he determined that she wasn’t in motion.

“We’ve got her,” Neo declared to the group. “She’s in Aci Castello. Let’s move out.”

The teams were gathered and given instructions for transit to the air strip where the DeLuca jet was waiting in the event that it was needed. Neo made the call to the pilot to get the engine running, while he ran to the armory to retrieve his sword. It was time to use the darn thing. He noticed upon his return to the front of the house where the teams were gathered that Neeky tried to sneak off with another team. Neo was not having any of that and accosted her, insisting that she ride with him in the vehicle he was in. Frankie was in the front and they would be alone in the backseat.

“I don’t want you out of my site,” he leaned over and whispered in her ear as they got in.

“I wonder why?” she hissed.

“You’re my woman, why else?” Ribbing him, she tried to put space between them but he pulled her back and place an arm around her shoulders. “Stay put, otherwise I’ll kiss you right here. You don’t want the driver and Frankie seeing that, do you.”

“You’ve got some nerve,” she spat under her breath. “Since when have I agreed to be your woman?”

“I claimed you a long time ago, Antonique. You just didn’t know it.”

* * *

“Apparently neither did you,” she muttered under her breath.

That was it? That was your response Neeky? She could kick herself. Why couldn’t she find a comeback this time? Her tongue was tied up as her heart raced while sitting so close to Neo. What was happening to her? Neeky was in a sour mood when she realized that she was attracted to him more than she cared for. He was an immature young man with a giant ego, and she had no intention of dealing with that.

She had to admit that since she arrived here, he’d grown up a lot. He was dealing with his father’s business like a Boss, taking charge, having regular meetings with executives, the doctors, and the soldiers. In addition, he was training regularly, which was showing in his agility and strength. She was proud of his growth and the way he took charge. With that in mind, she relaxed back into the seat, and focused on the mission ahead.

A phone buzzed, breaking the silence in the car for the twenty-minute transit to the air field. Neo plucked his phone from his jacket pocket and stared at the screen for a second before answering. Neeky turned to look at him as his face became grim and his eyes narrowed.

“Where the fuck is my mom, you bitch?” he growled. “When I find you, I will rip your heart out.”

Neeky leaned closer to listen in as she could hear the female voice. The words were not very clear but she did make out some.

“Calm down, your mom is going to be just fine. I thought I’d call to have you say goodbye to her.”

“You fucking bitch, I will find you.”

“No, you won’t. But you can certainly try. Say goodbye to mommy.”

“Neo?”

“Mom?”

“Baby, I trust you,” Melody’s voice cracked. “Know that I love you dearly.”

“I love you too mom. Don’t worry I’ll …. Sonofabitch!” Neo swore as the line went dead in the middle of his speech. “I’m gonna behead that bitch!”

“I’m here for it,” Neeky whispered in his ear as he pocketed the phone.

He turned and planted a kiss on her nose. Not quite knowing what came over her, she cupped his face and pressed her lips to his. A thrilling sensation galloped through her as he deepened the kiss by parting her mouth and taking her tongue.

Oh shit, she inwardly groaned. I’m falling…
