Next thing he knew, she reached up and grabbed him behind the head, holding it still while butting his forehead with hers. Neo cried out in pain as he reeled backwards, grabbing his forehead, thinking it might be busted. It wasn’t, but it felt warm as the impact of the head butt caused a bump to start rising on it.
“You’re lucky she went easy on you,” Uncle Robert said. “But you two need to get along if we are going to be working together.”
“Send her back,” Neo yelped. “I’m not working with her.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” Neeky retorted. “I’m here because of Nino and I will stay until we get to the bottom of all this shit that’s going down.”
Neo barely recovered from the blow as his head throbbed. He was seething inside, but he must admit that he might need these people. As Frankie had pointed out a few days ago, unfamiliar faces could get certain tasks done since many of the DeLuca enemies knew their faces.
“Just stay outta my way,” he hissed then turned to his uncle. “The men can occupy the guest house and she will be given a room upstairs.”
“No, I stay with my team. And if you mention my gender, we gone have problems.”
“As you wish,” he muttered, then came close to her, whispering in her ear. “I owe you one and I will collect.”
“I’m looking forward to it,” she retorted under her breath.
As they both glared at each other, Neo had to give Neeky props. This was the most energy he’d experienced in the last few days. Since the strike of the first tragedy, he’d only experienced numbness and some glimmer of anger. He’d lost focus there for a minute, but now that he’d been challenged by this woman, he had to prove that he could not only handle her, but the business at hand.
The last two and a half days has been life changing, and that was putting it mildly. It was while staring into Neeky’s shiny brown eyes that he remembered the conversation with the strange woman on the phone and what she asked him to solve. His mind went back – two days to when it all started.
