“Neo, trust me, it’s real. Your father is a DeLuca. By definition, his name alone makes him an enemy to his rivals, moreover, he made some dangerous enemies over the years.”

Neo stepped closer to Frankie, speaking in lower tones. “Could this be a test from my parents?”

Frankie shook his head. “No, they would never test you this way. You need to gather your people now and get on it before things become worse. I will serve as your captain if you will have me.”

Neo’s voice came out strained as he realized the veracity of the situation. “Yes, you are the captain.”

“Signore DeLuca,” the detective called. “We are pressed for time here. We need to continue our investigations before the trail goes cold.”

Still reeling from all that happened in just a few short hours, Neo absently followed the Detective out to the door with Frankie at his side. Once outside, Frankie beckoned one of the other men to bring around a car. A few minutes later, a dark green sedan pulled up at the front porch.

“I can drive my…”

Frankie shook his head as he opened the back-passenger door. “No Neo Sir. In this situation, we should escort you,” Frankie suggested. When Neo hesitated, he added, “That’s what your father would do.”

As Neo got into the car and Frankie sat in the front, another man at the wheel, he knew he wasn’t ready to fit into his father’s shoes. The best thing he could do at that moment was find his parents and bring them home. But first, he needed to deal with this news about his brother. He would only believe it when he saw his brother’s dead corpse. Until then, he would keep hope alive that this was all a case of mistaken identity.
