Epilogue

Neo

Neeky and I spend six months in Italy, where we enjoyed a pre-wedding honeymoon. Neeky said she was not ready to get married to give her another year to plan. My mom was overjoyed, and the two women spent a lot of time together, getting to know each other. My mother especially loved that her future daughter-in-law was a badass like herself.

They went on shopping and venue sprees, while I took control of the shipping company. Word reached me that Mass Joe was on his last breath, so I kept my promise and returned to Jamaica with Neeky and my mother.

We quickly got a DNA done test to see if he was really my great grandfather.

My mother was not too pleased with this information as she learned that my grandfather's mother had been abandoned by this man. Based on her grandmother’s life story, it lined up with what Mass Joe told us.

When the results came, it was no shock that they were true. Neeky still did not forgive him for what he did, and neither did I. But the fact remained that he was my great grandfather.

He died the following day after the results came out, and it seemed as if he was waiting for those results in order to die.

He begged for forgiveness for not being there for the family, or not being there for my great grandmother. My mother promised him that she would eventually forgive him one day. I promised no such thing. He also asked Neeky to forgive him. I’m not sure she ever will.

We gave him a good funeral. Being the community pillar that he was, because he was known in the community as a man who knew everything, the man who could give you the best directions, the man who knew stories from ancient days he was well loved by the all.

It was a pity that the people didn't know his true colors, and that he was a coward in real life who prevented justice by not speaking out against Rusty Cock and his cohorts. He was not a man who I respected, because of is cowardice towards the woman he claimed to have loved.

I felt ashamed to be called his great grandson. I always felt that my bloodline was superior, but this man sullied it. And that was unforgivable.

Nonetheless, if I can help it, a new generation of DeLucas will derive from me. Now that we learned that Neeky’s diagnosis was wrong. That doctor is going to hear from the DeLuca lawyers soon … very soon.

“The end.”

“No sah, it done!”
