Chapter 5

Neo

The coos of the night owl and chirping of crickets had become the kind of noises to put me to sleep. But for some reason tonight was not one such night. I tossed and turned as I lay on the bed in the room next to Neeky’s room. Uncle had disappeared some time past twelve thirty and had not been seen since.

The night was warm, it being late May, so I was only dressed in a pair of shorts. The window was opened, and the sheets pushed to the side. On the bedside table was a pitcher of water which the ice had melted from, leaving a puddle on the wooden surface. From the streetlight that was shining through the window, I made out a lizard running across the far wall.

I’d tossed and turned for the better part of the last twenty minutes and I decided that was enough. I never considered myself a patient man, but twenty minutes was a tad too long. Frustrated, I pushed my feet off the bed and stood with my dick already bracing against the crotch of my shorts.

If someone had told me that I’d someday go crazy over a woman, I’d perhaps laugh them to scorn. I now understood why my father was the way he was. He was totally whipped for my mom who was a crazy ass woman. Neeky was just as crazy and drove me absolutely insane. I left my room and stalked down the passage.

Her door was ajar, and I pushed it open. Neeky was sitting on her bed, her back towards the door and seemed to be engrossed in something on her phone. As I moved towards the bed, she must have sensed my presence because she twisted her head in my direction and pulled the earbuds from her ears.

“What are you doing in my room?”

“You don’t seem surprised,” I countered. “Were you expecting me?”

“Of course not, the door makes a slight squeak when you push it open.”

I moved closer. “What yuh doin’?”

“Non a yuh business.”

I reached down and took the phone and her earbuds. The song Once Again was playing while Neeky’s glassy eyes stared up at me. I put the phone down, concerned that she’d been crying. This threw me off as I’d never seen her this vulnerable before.

“Baby, what’s wrong?” Sitting beside her, I pulled her into my arms.

With a push, she tried to wiggle away. “Nothing’s wrong.”

I didn’t let go and held her closer. “Disconnect the buds, I wanna hear the song.”

Let me know if we will ever meet again?

Now I’m standing here alone

And our destiny has passed me by(y)

Isn’t it the dream that we can’t wake up from

You have gone so far away, baby I can’t just say, even once

That I love you

From deep inside my heart

Don’t let me cry

“Baby, you know I love you, right?” I whispered, kissing her cheek.

“You have a funny way of showing it.”

“Ha-ha, I can show you how much right now.”

Neeky pushed me away and stood, breathing short. “That’s all on your mind? Everything with you is sex!”

“What’s wrong with that? Sex does make situations better.” I stood and reached for her. “And when you’re crazy about someone the way I am about you, what else matters?”

She stared at me for a moment in silence before talking. “One should learn to control himself. Not every situation calls for sex.”
