Page 114 of Courage to Love Again

A deep, guttural growl emitted from his throat before his body relaxed. He looked down at me. Grabbing his face, I pulled him into the sexiest kiss while his manhood throbbed inside me.

“I love you,” I whispered to him.

“I love you too.”

Callum and I lay intertwined in my covers two rounds later, with my arm and leg tossed over him. He gently stroked my back as I rested my head on his chest.

“I never want this to end,” I said softly, looking up at him. “Being with you, I mean.”

“It never has to end,” he said, meeting my gaze. “As long as you want me, I’ll be here, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I want you forever, Pasha. It doesn’t have to be right now; it doesn’t even have to be within the next year, but one day, you will be my wife and the mother of my children.”

I sat up and looked at him. “What if... What if I can’t give you children?”

“I have faith that when the time is right, the good Lord will bless your womb and cover you to carry my child. Even if that isn’t the case, there is more than one way to become a parent. No matter how it happens, you and I will raise a beautiful family together. We’ll have a beautiful life together, filled with so much love and happiness. Can you see that, baby?”

I nodded. I could see it, but more than that, I wanted it. I had enough heartbreak and was ready for my happy ending. Maybe it wouldn’t be painted the way I envisioned, but as long as I ended up happy, I would take that. I believed I could have endless happy endings and beautiful beginnings with this man. He’d proven that real love existed.

Love that was rooted in mutual respect.

Love that was patient and kind.

Love that wasn’t prideful.

Love that was, above all else, unconditional.

Ten Months Later

Callum

“Pasha LeAnn Brooks.”

“That’s my best friend!” Avyn screamed.

“Go, Pash!” That was Blake.

“That’s my girl!” That was Tia.

“Go, Auntie P!” Of course, that was Precious.

We were rolling deep today. Not only were both of our friends in attendance but so were many of Pasha’s family members. We were in the auditorium of South Tech. Today, my baby was graduating with her certificate in phlebotomy. She’d completed her coursework. She’d done her internship and passed her boards. Today, she was walking across the stage as a certified phlebotomy tech, and in two weeks, she’d be starting her first official job at an oncology center.

We’d braved long study sessions and sleepless nights. We’d braved the stress of school, work, and maintaining our relationship with each other, family, and friends. It wasn’t an easy journey for her. At times, she wanted to give up, but we were all right there to give her that extra push she needed. Now, here she was.

My heart swelled with pride as our eyes connected in the crowd. She smiled and blew me a kiss, which I didn’t hesitate to return. I snapped as many pictures as possible of her receiving her certificate before returning to her seat. Anxiously, we sat through the remainder of the program. Pasha wasted no time finding us when it was over. I spotted her coming toward us and quickly made my way through the crowd to her. When I reached her, I scooped her up in my arms and spun her around.

“I’m so proud of you, baby,” I said, kissing all over her face.

“Thank you. You know, this certificate is just as much yours as it is mine. You pushed me when I needed it most. I couldn’t have done this without you.” She pressed her lips to mine. “Oh!”

I took a step back. “What’s wrong.”

She unzipped her robe and placed my hand on her slowly protruding stomach. I felt a slight movement, and a smile spread across my face.

“She’s moving...”

“She was so active throughout the entire program. I guess she wanted me to know she was proud of me too.”
