This undoes me. When he calls me Madi. When the pretense of boss/employee gets dropped for a moment, and it’s like we’re something more.

It scares the hell out of me.

I’m in danger of falling head over heels in love with this man, and I don’t want to lose control like that. I know it would end in disaster.

I pop off and put things back into role play. “Is this how you like it, Mr. Blackthroat?”

Brick’s eyes gleam unnaturally bright as he catches me under the armpits and lifts me all the way off the floor and onto his desk. “Take notes, Madi,” he growls as he spreads my knees wide. “This is how I like it done.” He shoves into me.

I cry out, and he covers my mouth. There’s no more foreplay. No more finesse. Brick Blackthroat is an animal now, going at it with a feral need.

I start to quake with an impending orgasm immediately. The level of passion between us is beyond what I ever believed possible. Blackthroat fucks me like his company depends on it. Like his life depends on it. Like this is a race he not only intends to finish, he intends to dominate. To win.

And he has won. It’s hard for me to imagine I could ever have sex this good with anyone else. It’s hard to imagine ever willingly walking away from anything this man offers–even if it’s just the scraps of a torrid office affair.

“Come for me, Madi.” His voice is pure gravel. He thrusts in hard, holding the fronts of my thighs to keep me from sliding away. “Come for me…right…now!”

He thrusts in, his face contorting with his release.

I wrap my legs behind his waist and hold him in against me, coming and coming right along with him.

For a long moment, we just pant together, our breath synchronized like a heartbeat. Then Brick eases out. “Did you get all that, Ms. Evans?” His lips quirk up in an uncharacteristic smile that makes my heart flop helplessly in my chest.

“Yes, sir.” I sound breathless.

He hands me a few tissues as he disposes of the condom.

I hop off the desk, but he picks me up and places me back there. “I didn’t say I was through with you.” His voice is softer now, the strain of the grueling week absent after the release. He brushes my hair out of my face and kisses my forehead. “Go get yourself some steak and lobster and then go home,” he murmurs. “They’re almost done.”

I try not to melt. “I’m not leaving until the project is done. I’m part of the team.” My stomach growls. “But I won’t pass on dinner. Shall I bring you a plate?”

His expression softens even more. “I’ll come with you.”

I absolutely hate the way my heart flip flops in my chest as we walk out of his office together.

Chapter Four

Brick

By Monday night, I’m back from California, with the deal closed, and my nose in the snow.

I race at full speed in the darkness, narrowly dodging trees like I’m in some kind of competition. Letting my wolf off-leash in the Berkshires after being pent up half the week is a relief, as is having the Benson deal closed.

I should be out celebrating with my team. Opening thousand dollar bottles of champagne and eating at the best restaurant in Manhattan.

Instead, I’m alone in the woods.

I took Eagle with me to close the deal instead of Billy or Nickel, which I’m sure pissed them off. I just wasn’t willing to sit in the private jet with them and field their questions or judgements about what I’m doing or not doing with Madi.

Eagle already knows exactly what I’ve been doing with Madi, and he also knew better than to mention it on the trip.

When I get back to the manse, I shower and flop down on the bed Madi slept in. Of course, Liz has washed the sheets and aired out the room, but I was still drawn to the far wing of the mansion, like my subconscious–or my wolf–wants me to remember what happened there.

I know this is more than screwing the secretary.

Far more.

Everyone who was here that day knew it when I nearly went nuts about her disappearance.
