I mean, I liked the look in general, but not on her and not at this moment. Kit was known to do some crazy things.

Oh, wait, no.

That was me—I was known for doing some batshit crazy things.

Like Thane, Kit was more coolheaded, except for the time she’d gone a bit nuts when she thought Angela had died. But right now, I wouldn’t put crazy past her.

“Are you sure?” Angela asked, her voice soft as she reached for Kit.

My best friend moved around the counter until she cupped Angela’s face in her hands. “No more hiding from who I am. I can’t risk your life, or anyone else’s, just because I’m afraid.”

“I’m also kind of extra powerful now and could probably kick your ass,” I added with a shrug.

Kit’s gaze flicked to me. “Don’t tempt me to test that theory.”

“Yeah, because then I’d be forced to get involved, V, and I do not want to fight Kit.” Shuddering, Lena pushed her empty plate away, then let out a hearty burp.

“And if Lena jumped in, then I’d have to rescue you both.” Ivan ducked beneath Lena’s fist and skipped away with a grin.

Angela stood from her stool and nearly collapsed. Kit caught her arms and kept her upright.

Thane’s eyebrows furrowed as he rose. “Let’s get her to the DEA to rest under angelic supervision.”

His concern for her seeped through our bond, and I smiled. It was another reason I loved the man.

“Their magic’s pretty amazing,” Ivan’s voice called out behind a tall cabinet door. He reappeared and held up a few bags and boxes of snacks: chips, pretzels, and protein bars. “But the food there? Not so great. I’ll bring some provisions.”

Kit grimaced. “I need her for the unbinding spell.”

“Then let’s unbind your magic after she’s gotten some rest.” I gathered the empty plates and set them in the sink. The one thing this fancy kitchen lacked was a dishwasher, probably because it had always been Shirley’s job.

But worrying about dirty dishes was a low priority. I’d pay for a cleaning service—and a psychic cleansing—once Colin was dead.

Angela bit her lip and shook her head, sending her brown curls bouncing. “I’ll be okay. We need to do this before anything else happens.”

Kit’s eyes widened slightly. I would bet she didn’t expect Angela to agree with her because I sure hadn’t expected it. I liked this dainty human witch more and more each day.

To think, I might not have seen this side of her without this clusterfuck of a situation.

“Wait, why didn’t Octavia make you unbind your magic?” I asked.

“She tried once she got Angela out of the way,” Kit said. “But when she found out we’d need Angela for the spell, she wanted to wait until she had me totally under her control.”

I raised an eyebrow. “You seemed fairly controlled already.”

“Not as much as she thought.”

That’s my girl. I grinned. “Okay, so how do we unbind you?”

“First, we need supplies,” she said.

Ivan hugged the bags and boxes to his chest. “I’m still bringing snacks.”

Holding her fiancée around the waist, Kit led us back outside and toward the greenhouse. She aimed for the door, despite the shattered glass panes making entry possible from any angle.

After handing Angela over to Thane, Kit moved to the wooden door, which had survived my falcon screech. A testament to its durability.

I blinked as she brushed a few pieces of glass away from the threshold with her foot, then shut the door…
