She opened her mouth to object, but Angela beat her to it. “Actually, she said she’d stay behind if you didn’t agree to the plan.”

I smirked. “How much did she pay you to say that?”

Veronica scoffed, but her purple eyes twinkled with amusement. “How dare you. A lady never reveals her bribes.”

“Thank you.” I threw an arm around her shoulders and drew her to me.

She tilted her face up toward mine, and I kissed her. Unadulterated love flooded through our bond. Her lips tasted like heaven, like ocean breezes warmed by the midday sun. I could drown in her love until the end of time and never have a single complaint.

“I can open a portal to sneak us through,” Kit said, forcing our attention back to the present. “But it’d be faster and less likely to be noticed if you realm walked us in.”

“You’re a bad influence,” I teased Veronica.

A rush of intense desire swept through our soul link, instantly stiffening my cock.

She shrugged casually, though a flush crept up her neck. “I just get things done.”

“Okay,” I said with a nod. “I’m in.”

Because the sooner we got that dagger and took care of Colin, the sooner I could throw her on her back and thrust deep inside her warmth, claiming her once again.

A heavy, dull ache spread through my limbs.

Mine…

…for now.

Veronica

I’m not gonna lie. I definitely thought we would have to bully Thane into going, or I would’ve ended up staying behind. Excitement fluttered in my stomach. Soon, we would have the dagger, create the super weapon, and kick Colin’s ass to the curb.

“If things go sideways, I’ll help realm walk back to this side,” Ivan added.

“Let’s try not to let anything go sideways,” Angela said with a slightly panicked expression as she gripped Kit’s hand tighter.

The phoenix grinned. “It’s always good to have a backup plan.”

Ivan was right. Kit and I always planned one or more backup scenarios should things go wrong during one of our heists. But Angela was new to this whole sneaking around business.

Still rockin’ his birthday suit, Luka walked over to our group. Dirt smudged across his tanned muscles, which somehow made him even more handsome, like a work of chiseled art. I wasn’t the only one who thought so, judging by Lena’s open-mouthed stare.

He shook Thane’s hand and nodded to the rest of us. “Thank you for rallying help so quickly.”

“I’m just glad there were no casualties,” my mate said.

Seriously, we got lucky. If Kit hadn’t recognized the spell and intervened, we might have been digging graves tonight. To think I’d tried to stop her from coming with us.

As if sensing my thoughts, the alpha wolf turned to Kit and dipped his chin. “I’m in your debt.”

“I don’t do debt between friends,” she said.

Luka smiled, and I swear I would find a puddle of drool at Lena’s feet. “I’m lucky to have your friendship, and I look forward to helping you out someday.”

Her gaze flicked to me. “Don’t get too comfortable, then. Trouble follows this one like night follows the sunset, and somehow I’m always dragged in.”

I threw my hands up in the air. “You can’t blame me for everything.”
