But together, we brought out the best in each other.

Thane’s strokes grew faster, more urgent, building our need to claim each other fully. As the intense heat rose within me, I sat back and rode him hard. My fingernails dug into his shoulders.

His hand moved off my hip and rubbed my clit with his thumb, while the other rose to cup my breast and lightly pinch my nipple. His gaze penetrated mine, fucking me with his eyes as much as his hands and cock.

As I panted, about to release, my fiery wings unfurled. I cried out, and fireworks exploded behind my eyes. A raging fire overtook my senses as my orgasm consumed me.

Gripping my hips again, Thane thrust fast and deep until he released inside me with a groan. Pleasure unlike anything I’d ever known spread through me, electrifying and igniting my entire body.

Something new had happened, something beautiful and powerful.

Gasping, I opened my eyes. Flames engulfed us. My legs were wrapped around his black-scaled waist, my arms around his neck. We were suspended above the chaise as my wings beat against the night air.

I met Thane’s shocked gaze and slowly returned us to the singed and smoking chaise. “Well, that was a new one.”

He grinned as I doused my flames. “Time for some sturdier chairs.”

I laughed as he scooped me up and carried me into the bedroom.

THREE MONTHS LATER

Nothing in my life had ever been easy—until now. In fact, life was just about perfect these days. No more wars, no more subterfuge (other than my own making, of course).

Thane and I finally had our chance to enjoy life as a couple, spending every night together while resuming normal activities during the day.

Semi-normal, anyway.

It had taken a month to clean up Colin’s mess and bury or burn the dead in the Otherworld. We worked non-stop to erect funeral pyres, rebuild the capital, and remove the last traces of Colin’s contaminated magic.

Likely because of their guilt for siding with William initially, Rico’s shifters had volunteered to lead the infantry’s charge, which resulted in most of the clan’s deaths. But Luka had kept his promise and then some to the survivors. Instead of forming an alliance, he’d invited the few remaining shifters, including his brother, to join his pack.

Sure, Tabitha had grumbled a bit, but she wasted no time feeding them and finding them places to stay. A true momma wolf and alpha’s mate.

Once we’d returned home for good, Thane had given in to Adam’s incessant requests to work for the DEA. I’d just smiled when he told me, knowing he wouldn’t last as a kept man. Thane needed to stay busy as much as I did and loved his job at the DEA. For now, he would train new grim reapers.

Adam had surprised us all when he turned down a promotion. Not just any promotion, mind you—his fucking retirement. As in everlasting peace in his god’s heaven.

And why would he do such a nonsensical thing? Because he claimed to love Earth too damn much.

Fucking crazy if you asked me.

His newest mission was persuading the upper levels of the DEA to change the agency’s rules about not getting involved with other realm affairs. Had we had other branches’ help from the beginning, we would have squashed Colin like the cockroach he was long before my parents fled Mirognya.

Too many lives were lost or destroyed because of a stupid, out-of-date rule. Well, to be fair, it was all Colin’s fault for not accepting his role in life, but I hoped Adam’s mission would be successful.

Speaking of Mirognya, I’d spent a week helping the phoenixes and dragons set up their new council governing the three territories. I’d even met the merfolk of Mirvody, and I was sure I made a fool of myself over their tails.

The merfolk I’d met in the human realm walked on two legs and didn’t like it when I’d asked for a glimpse of their tails. In fact, they’d found it downright offensive, but how was I supposed to know they considered it rude?

Anyway, I’d turned down all attempts at making me a permanent part of the council. I was one of the worst people for the job; I just needed to convince everyone else of that fact.

Seriously, wasn’t my track record proof enough?

Yeesh.

In other good news, Jackson was back in prison with beefed-up security. While I wished he’d died a horrible death, I was okay with this outcome. Plus, Lisa and I would happily hunt him down if he escaped again.
