I know Sasha took care of ordering enough clothing for her for a year, and her team at the Parrish made sure she has ample toiletries. But she had a life before this. An apartment. Stuff. Things she had before she met me.

I tend to like to forget that. We already retrieved her purse from the club with her ID and wallet, returning them to her. “Do you want anything brought over from your place?” I ask.

She stops to think, crinkling her nose. She scratches Angel behind the ears. I can hear the purring from where I stand. “No. Not really.”

“You sure? Trinkets, mementos…”

Her gaze holds mine. “I have everything I need right here.”

“Got it.”

Am I included in that statement?

No idea why that thought crosses my mind.

I move on, clearing my throat. “We’ll need to speak to your work and your friends. Think of reasons for your being here. But we can do that later. Get settled first.”

“They’ll be back with the rest of the luggage any minute. I’ll unpack for both of us.” She leaves me, going to the trunk by the dresser I’ve deemed hers.

“You sure? I can do my own when I get back from the gym—”

“Go. You’ll be late.” She murmurs something that sounds like “leave it to me,” but it’s clear I’ve been dismissed as she opens the lid of her trunk. I watch as she delicately places all her undergarments in the top four smaller drawers.

One for bras, one for panties, one for socks, and my personal favorite, the one filled with lingerie. Angel stays close by, playing with the string hanging down from the waist of Lindy’s jogger pants as she unpacks her clothing.

I’ve noticed how neat she kept her room in the Parrish. How perfectly she laid out exactly what I would need for our overnight at the hotel. It’s obvious her happy place is organizing. She wants to get to it. On her own. I could use a moment anyway.

I pass the brothers bringing in the last of our stuff as I make my way down the stoop to head toward the gym. A bit of angst rises in my chest, leaving her alone in the Village for the first time.

I trust the family implicitly.

But still, they don’t take kindly to intruders. Especially not ones who wanted to spill all our most intimate secrets to the world. I know no one would hurt her, but still… They know she’s here. That she’s wearing my ring. Now that we’re “engaged,” she should be safe. If she were my wife, a member of this family, I know for sure no one could touch her.

I’m seriously contemplating the idea.

I stroll down the street, excitement rising as I get closer to the gym. I break out in a jog, ready to be at the old warehouse on the back of the property that I turned into my training facility. Nothing fancy. I kept it simple, buying the equipment secondhand when the local gym, Barbells, renovated their place. Even painted the dark gray exterior myself using a spray backpack. But it’s home.

The endorphins start to come as I pick up speed. As I run, I try to make sense of the dramatic turn my life has taken.

This girl, this Lindy, she’s making me fall for her.

She’s just so damn nice, causing my entire staff to want to serve her. Please her. Make her smile. I feel the same damn way. She’s so fucking sweet, I get a toothache just talking to her.

I hate pets and now there’s a litter box…

Inside my house.

I stay on the path, keeping the damp grass off the shoes I put on this morning for the plane ride here, as I jog past the meadow. A heaviness surrounded me, and she came and pursed those pretty lips of hers and blew all the storm clouds away.

I run up the five concrete stairs to the entrance of the warehouse.

She let the sun in.

I wipe my feet on the large gray mat on the stoop.

She’s the light in my dark world.

I grab the long silver handle that runs vertically along the large black door. A door I made myself at the workshop on Boss’s nearby estate. Board and batten in style, made of white oak milled from a tree on his land.
