“You’re Death,” Orion said as he stepped out from behind Duncan. “The big daddy reaper.”

Jaden smirked. “I see Izel has been telling you about me.”

“Not much,” Orion admitted as he looked Jaden over. “To be honest, I was kinda thinking that Death was this decrepit creature with super-long fingers and a really ugly face. You’re flat-out gorgeous.”

Duncan snarled as Izel narrowed his eyes.

“What?” Orion asked. “You’d have to be blind not to notice that. Come on. Tell me you guys don’t think so.”

“Sweetheart, you don’t have to say everything that comes to mind,” Duncan said with a curl of his lip as he glared at Jaden. “It’s perfectly fine to keep a lot of things to yourself.”

Although Izel had thought Jaden beautiful, he didn’t appreciate Orion talking about how hot another guy was.

“Sorry I said anything.” Orion groaned before he turned his attention back to Jaden. “Why’re you here?”

Izel wanted to know the reason as well. He wasn’t sure if he could outrun Jaden if the guy was there to rip him away, but he would grab his mates and try. He would keep running until the end of time if he had to.

“Since the dawn of time when reapers were breathed into existence, I’ve never had one find a mate.” Jaden looked at Izel. “To be honest, I’m in shock.”

Izel moved closer to his mates. Even though Jaden had never given Izel a reason not to trust him, he wasn’t taking any chances. “So you are just here out of curiosity?”

“No.” Jaden shook his head. “I think your mating has disturbed the prison cell of the Slayer.”

“Who?” Duncan asked.

“An ancient beast,” Jaden said. “A powerful being that the primal source locked away in a lush cell that, so far, has held him.”

“The forest,” Orion whispered. “I knew I saw red eyes right before we escaped.”

“I saw them, too,” Duncan added.

“What I want to know is how you men were able to penetrate the cell,” Jaden said.

“We don’t know,” Izel replied. “I wanted somewhere private I could talk to Duncan and Orion. I thought of the forest surrounding this town when I transported us, but that is not where we ended up.”

Jaden cursed. “It’s the power of my reapers that contain him, Izel. Finding your mates, along with your emotions coming back full force, is feeding the Slayer.”

“I was never told this,” Izel argued. “I had no idea that creature even existed or that place, let alone that reapers kept it sealed.”

“What are we supposed to do about that?” Duncan asked. “You want us to deny Izel?”

“No way,” Orion argued. “We’re a threesome, a team, and you can’t take him away from us!”

Izel was touched deeply by Orion’s outburst.

“Nor do I want to take him away,” Jaden replied. “I was simply tracking the source of the Slayer’s growing strength.”

“The Slayer sucked me back into the forest, sucked Duncan back there, too,” Orion said. “Do we need to worry that he’s going to keep doing that?”

“Unfortunately,” Jaden said. “He’s targeted you, human. He must think you are the weakest of the three.”

“I am.” Orion crossed his arms as he took a few steps toward Jaden. “But that doesn’t mean I like being screwed with. I might be only a human, but don’t count me out.”

“How do we stop him?” Izel was not going to go back to his lonely existence. He was not going to give up Duncan and Orion because some ancient beast might break free. Izel had finally found happiness, and he was not going to let anyone take that away from him, even if that was a selfish move.

Two thousand years was long enough to serve as a reaper, and although Izel wasn’t sure if it was even possible, he wanted out now that he had Duncan and Orion in his life.

“You don’t,” Jaden replied. “Panahasi is going to see the Keeper as we speak. We will find a solution.”
